Why would the Flyers trade his rights for a 7th? He's not dead, he wants to play. If he goes over to the KHL and plays well, he could be a better asset.
There's a lot of smaller, effective guys that have to scuffle for jobs. Again, Rafael Diaz is a prime example. Solid effective third pair guy, went unsigned and is on a PTO.
Derek Engelland who is, at best a 6th defenseman, but a great fighter, gets almost $3mm a year. - Jsaquella
i am not talking about diaz or engleland. engeland is a terrible contract. beyond terrible.
why trade for a 7th. getting an asset back is better than not getting one. correct he could be a better asset later or stay there. then you get noting.
my point all along is no other teams were lining up for his services if he was a legit nhl player. the flyers always do right by guys in the orginization. so i doubt they were playing any hardball if a eal was there to be made do you? |

Agreed, on both accounts.
I'm going to the Flyers-NYR game next Tuesday and Bellemare is a player I'm looking forward to watching.
/bookmarks this comment for future reference if he bombs out of the league
Also, what gives with Laughton on the wing? - johndewar
They want to see if he fits there in case they have Powe or Bellemare center the 4th line, I think. Doubt it will really jump start his play in the pre-season. |

I'm not sold a Torres or Tootoo would be deterred by Stortini or even Rosehill, who is a good fighter. That's kind of my issue with icing an enforcer.
Now a days, guys like Torres or Neil will still lay a big hit, and then turtle if a guy like Rosehill or Orr comes over to dispense justice. They will only fight a skilled guy or a non tough guy. Generally when a Rosehill fights, he's fighting a guy like Orr anyhow. Not sure how Rosehill fighting another team's enforcer stops Neil or Tootoo from taking a run at a skill guy.
From a strictly AHL point of view, I get Stortini. Different league and style of play. - Jsaquella
Not many cheapshots dolled out against Toronto last year. Orr is an every game presence who will not hesitate to go after anyone who touches Kessel, JVR, etc. A true enforcer.
Rosehill is cut from the same cloth, but Chief doesnt dress him as much as he could/should.
I understand your point, just disagree. I think the enforcer who can skate reasonably well like Rosehill should dress every game. This is the Philadelphia Flyers after all. |

Jaws was a movie about the great philosopher, Quint.
Quint: Jesus H Christ, when I was a boy, every little squirt wanted to be a harpooner or a sword fisherman. What d'ya have there - a portable shower or a monkey cage?
Hooper: Anti-Shark cage.
Quint: Anti-shark cage. You go inside the cage?
[Hooper nods]
Quint: Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water. Our shark.
[sings]
Quint: Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again. |

Rosehill is bad defensively and offensively, which is why he was -8 in just 168 minutes of ice time. Playing Rosehill regularly lowers the Flyers chances of winning games, especially if he's playing alongside Rinaldo instead of replacing him.
His ES minutes were disastrous for the Flyers.

Here is my take on the enforcer/13th forward roll. Using Rosehill as an example he knows his roll, can skate and is not a terrible hockey player. Now if you want a more skilled player in the "13th" forward roll why would he sign here if that is what his roll would be. He would probably get more chances somewhere else. Also you don't want to put one of your younger players there because you want them playing and developing. Rosehill can spot in for a game or two, can play in a physicall game like with Boston or Anaheim and is ok with his roll. That is tough to find in a player. |
