But so were Burrows Hansen .

If Kassian can hold the fort for a year and let Vey develop into a 2 nd line RW then the can switch when the timing is right.

I agree completely with your assessment of Horvat and Shinkaruk. Burrows may have looked slow, but I'll hold off passing judgment on a vet like him until the regular season starts. Hansen on the other hand better show something quick (to increase his trade value, not win a spot!).

Kassian showing so poorly this far is disappointing, but let's keep things in perspective, we aren't even halfway through preseason with a new coach and plenty of new linemates.

I am willing to trade Clarson Horvat or Tinordi for a decent goalie. Don't everyone jump at once.

If no decent offers I can draft one at with my third first rounder.

Exactly.

I know he trained hard this year so he needs to get the rust off , but at least his head is screwed on right this time.

I need your opinion. I laid this turd in the leafs thread (when comparing Burke's best drafts as a GM; Pronger vs the twins) just to see if anyone would bite. Oh boy did they…

This could be argued but it's difficult because you are not judging the actual player per-say. You're judging the pick (or picks).

Sure, Pronger has a stanley cup (thanks Scott Niedermayer) but that is a team award not an individual award. If you remove your personal bias and look strictly at the numbers, either twin has better personal stats and has accumulated more personal awards and hardware (international and NHL).

Pronger is a prototypical hard-nosed canadian defenceman. His style of play really turns the crank of unknowledgeable hockey fans that put more currency into aggression than skill. But then you look at his journey-man like career, suspensions, and personal conduct on and off the ice.

Put it all together and Pronger may be (by some) considered one of the most overrated defenceman ever.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

Now the topic was started by two leaf fans (but I jumped in). One of the Mods got pretty pissed off. Does it not scream sarcasm or is it to subtle?

If I didn't know you I would say it sounds sincere.

Maybe a higher proportion of spelling and grammatical mistakes, with more homer Canucks bias would have tipped the scales a bit?

I though the "unknowledgeable hockey fan" and "journeyman-like career" and "overrated" parts were obvious.

the Mod threatened me with a 3-month ban if I didn't smarten up.

I guess I have to carry a heavier sarcasm hammer.

Philadelphia, Chicago, Tampa Bay & Boston all over the cap still.

Boston and Philly can put Savard & Pronger on LTIR on day one of the season, which gives them some room but they're still over the cap for one day, which means small fines.

Ya you gotta lock that sh!t down. If you had said Bieksa and Pronger were comparables it wouldve been spot on

It should have been obvious, "Canuck" fan, in "Leaf thread", hyping Sedin, but there are some pretty stupid people around here that actually believe this stuff. If you had perhaps mentioned President's Trophies as if they were equal to winning a cup, and maybe how the twins turned Carter into a superstar, perhaps their sarcasmdar would have gone off a bit more.

Philly has too many players on one way contracts (23) and 25 players listed on the roster, but it looks to me like they are the only ones who really have to move a player to comply.

I can't remember if I heard it on 1040 or Sportsnet last night but someone was saying the Canucks were actually trying to trade up to grab Sam Bennett not Sam Reinhart... Anyone hear anything about that?

Boston still has to sign or trade Smith and Krug though. They'll have to move someone.

It was pretty well known that Benning really wanted Reinhart. Tried to move up to #1.
