Because it was a play off game. Taking any penalties can cost you the game and the series.

So why not in the last game? Because that would be asking for a big time suspension.

Maybe it won't be a fight. Maybe Backes will come in high on a forecheck. Or maybe someone else will go for someone like Kane. This is hockey, retribution is coming. .... I hope....

- BluemanGuruu

we all saw the hit on Tarasenko and Hitch said it might be coming basically, yet nothing happened.

The hit in question BETTER be answered. If not we show we are weak.
You are completely right about the playoff situation, this rolls over into this new season.

If they win the Stanley Cup this year, will you & Carcus recant? When the captain of my team makes a decision, I back him up.
- eggsegan

Lol, nope. The reason they win the cup won't be that fight. Leading by example is good but you always have to weigh the risk reward principle.

One can dream of a day without Jackman. Might actually win something then.

Jackman is fine as your 5/6/7 d-man. He isn't the problem. Playoff scoring has been the problem.

and when that day happens our defense has no balls to stand up to anyone. you think petro or bouwmeester are going to get in anyones face? little shatty? we NEED someone like jackman to clear the crease and say F*** YOU to the other team night in and night out. other wise our goal crease is just a whores vag welcoming anyone in

Will you if he gets hurt like David Clarkson did?

http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/589236

This is exactly why Backes should not be fighting in a preseason game.

It didn't happen to Backes. Backes doesn't have that kind of luck nor did he choose a dance partner anywhere near the quality of Cody McCormick.

The Backes fight energized the team in what was a lackluster performance to that point in the game. I understand your point, but I just do not agree with you. If hockey players always made decisions on the risk/ reward principle, we'd have an even more European-style game than we currently do. This isn't soccer...

Good news about Schwartzy, eh?

I haven't been sweating Schwarz at all. As I said a while ago, I'd prefer Schwartz not sign for a while so the Blues get a better, longer look at guys like Lindstrom, Mueller, Jaskin, Rattie, etc while not risking him getting injured. He has plenty of time to get the wrinkles ironed out before April.

Armstrong must have balls the size of cantaloupes. I bet he didn't come up one dollar from what he was offering two weeks ago.

well he did not cave in with Sobotka. He did a good job. This should help with resigning Tarasenko next year.

HELL YEAH. FINALLY

get the boy in camp and lets get the season rolling

I think the Ott contract was desperation to fill the role left by sobe. Happy with this Schwartz deal though!

His contract is not bad. Fans are pretty crazy when they go on and on about Ott.

He is going to play an important role with this team this year.

Was at the game last night. Was a lot of fun, about as much fun as I have had at a preseason game.

It was pretty easy to spot the non-NHLers. Fabbri was not one of them. He could play right now and be good. Probably would play on many teams.

Sprint Center was a very nice building.

Nope. You are incorrect. You do not need to push anyone out of the crease as much unless Jackman is on the ice.

Petro will grow into it and Shattnekirk is getting a bit more and more toughness. But Jackman clearing the crease lmao. All he does is take shots at weak players and bad penalties when he isn't busy getting stuck in his own zone because he cannot make a play to move the puck out of his zone the way all the others you mentioned can.

Jackman would be good if he were able to process the game at at a faster speed but he is incapable. So big whoop witht hat toughness. You can through any jackass out there that is strong but it does not mean they can play the game at a high level.

Jackman played better for most of the season last year. Then in the second season he was absolutely dominated by Chicago and it was not all on Polak. Jackman plays hot potato with the puck when he is pressured placing his linemates in bad situations.

So go ahead and clear the crease. Though considering the rules changed about how you can go about it you have to get position. Jackman is a dinosaur in this league.

He cannot play here this year though. He is too small and has the tendency to play a bigger man's game which is dangerous for him. If it would not probably cost the Blues a player I would say if he plays well enough let him get some games in and practices in and send him back to juniors. A kid like that is not going to grow as much just at juniors and that is why the age limit thing is stupid.

It is part of the reason the AHL is not a better league and a better platform for developing players. How many of them end up skipping the AHL all together or slow their development down playing against lesser competition? Too many.

Having said that nothing by the blogger on this game nor on Schwartz signing. I think we need a blogger with more dedication.

More puzzled how Reaves got so much money or that Lapierre is still in a Blues uniform.

Armstrong did not have a particularly good season last year, maybe it will be better this year?

I have to agree with stljam eggs. Backes does not need to be fighting. Lamost in fact never.

That is why someone with the talent level of Reaves gets paid any kind of money. That is what Beach is auditioning for on the team.

Plently of kids needing to make a mark who could have manned up.

Lappy is a (frank)ing joke, we all know that. reaves is a small deal for someone that can add a lot to this team. he has decent hands but has been forced into the enforcer role.

Reaves deal pales in comparison to the Ott deal
I like ott but at 2.6 I think we could have gotten better

Yes. He was good in the regular season but he got burned against Chicago. He's just too slow to be getting second pair duty on this team. That's why they went out and got Gunnarson.

Reaves could be good but he lacks the foot speed necessary. His first strides are too slow. If he starts like last season he will look quick. But it won't last. He will get injured as he always does.

He is a good fourth liner but the difference between what he brings and say Porter or other players makes Reaves very over paid.
