Your point about better offensive players kind of makes my point. Having that much depth takes opportunities away from Simmonds. Having less guys gives more opportunity to Ryan. - Jsaquella
Bringing Ryan here would also mean less primo ice for guys like Simmer/Read/Schenn/Coots/Laughts on down the line. You might gain a 30-goal scorer, but you'd ostensibly be cutting marginal production from every other guy behind him. |

I've said it before, I have zero interest in Ryan unless Simmonds, Schenn or Voracek is traded for defensive help - Jsaquella
i'd rather keep the three guys you mentioned |

Exactly the reason I don't have interest in Ryan, unless they deal a guy for defense help. If they trade Simmonds or Schenn for a good defenseman, great, sign Ryan.
But right now, forward and forward depth is a strong point. |

It's apples to oranges, but SSB keeps insisting that Ryan's the more productive goal-scorer, when there's nothing at all to back that up:
Simmer's shot totals and SH%'s mirror Ryan's almost identically.
Read's G/60 numbers at ES mirror Ryan's almost identically.
As a pure finisher, he might have an edge... but from a production/practical standpoint, he doesn't have much of an edge, if at all. - Tomahawk
Almost...Almost...What was I thinking? Nothing to back this up at all, when you just did it for me. |

Just rotate them all so they can all play with Ryan. Ryan will play 60 mins a game |

As would I, but I'm talking about a hypothetical. If Schenn or Simmonds landed a legit top pair defenseman, I'd be OK with that and then adding Ryan, provided the deal is reasonable |

He's already making north of 5 million per year. Meaning his asking price will be between 6 and 7 mill at least. Still not worth it.
Whatever he ends up getting for a contract will be about what Read and Simmonds make combined. - mcefalu
There are reasonable UFA's, some known to have taken less to leave a little wiggle room for their teams to add more help. Most notably this past summer. |

Ryan's contract and perceived value make him less attractive. |

Except that there are plenty of teams unlike the Flyers with 0 forward depth who will drive the price up for Ryan. There aren't many other potential free agent wingers who might be available come this summer. Ryan will cost a pretty penny without a doubt, probably around $6.5 million per yr |

Absolutely. He's already making a lot of money, so expecting him to take a pay cut is unrealistic. I wouldn't want to pay him much more than he's making now, so unless he's got a real hard on to be a Flyer, I can't see it working out well |

When Bobby Ryan doesn't sign here, it will be like missing out on the last UFA we pursured. So what? If he does sign here, then what? The haters are up in arms?
It's all just a stupid pride and ego game, so the first can say I told you so.
I want Giroux to play with a pure shooter like we've seen in past years. Lindros and LeClair, Forsberg and Gagne, etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with this. |

I feel the same people who will clamor for the flyers to sign him will be the first to complain about his inconsistency and lack of physicality. He's very similar to JVR but older and worse IMO

There is nothing wrong with it, in and of itself. However, when you look at the team around him, it's not a pressing need. This is a team with a huge hole on the blueline, a tight cap situation and plenty of forward depth.
I'd rather see them fix the real problems than add a shooter for Giroux, because it's not a huge need they have to fill. |

Not much interest in Ryan for me. Too one dimensional, and lack the elements to his game that I think the Flyers should be looking for if they're going to get involved in a big money deal. I'd want a player who is just as effective without the puck, as with it. That you can put on the ice at the end of the game with a one goal lead, just as you can if you're down a goal. That's not Ryan in my opinion. |

Those are issues. Look, if I'm going after a shooter for Giroux who will likely make north of $6mm, I'd rather get a guy like Kessel. Ryan couldn't top 35 with Getzlaff. Kessel's scoring 35 & 37 with Tyler Bozak |

When three people (I assume seriously) can say that they wouldn't trade B. Schenn for B. Ryan, I think we have dropped his value too low. |

Jacob Markstrom on waivers, only mildly surprising name. Kevin Marshall on there as well |
