We did that with Coho too. iIf Horvat was on the Islanders he would be playing and producing. Look at Monahan last year.

We are no longer cup contenders , it is ok to give the kids a chance.

Dave Tomlinson said today, kids usually get sent back because they are still in a kids body. He said Horvat is in a man size body and looks like he can keep up with the pounding.

monahans are the exception. and few and far between. not the rule

Not exactly franchise players.

Ehrhoff was a top 4 PMD. Those guys tend to get similar money to 2LC's. I'd say it's a fair comparison. Only problem is that Hoff wasn't drafted and developed here.

very true

thats why id keep richardson, you want that work ethic to rub off on them and he seems quite vocal to his line mates.

I don't know if Id put burrows down as a leader though. He plays his game, and I guess in the earlier years lead by putting it all on the ice....but will he do that again? he looked pretty lethargic last night

(I like how you left daniel off your list )

Shhhhh. I tried to sneak that by.

here's the crux.

you're convinced the 19 year old unproven nhl'er is the best option.

this is far from a proven fact.

- hugefemale dog77

Not proven at all but while we still have leaders here he should be here the future is far brighter with horvat than richardson and im willing to bet the difference between them at the moment is minor other than horvat will be excited as hell and pump some enthusiam into the vets with shink

Not as rare these days. More kids are NHL ready. Bennett may play for the Flames this year if not Next. Ekblad will play this year . Draisitl might. Not as rare anymore for top 10 picks to step right in.

It's not just about leaving, it's saving cap. The more RFA years, the better it is for cap management. Plus you'd get him still on his ELC until he's 24, instead of 23. Believe it or not little things like that matter to GM''s and can make a big difference.

Like I said, if he's a pleasant surprise in his first 9 games it makes sense, but if he's just OK in those games then why keep him up?

- Nucker101

I hear what you're saying and it does make sense, but it's one year. Plus the Canuck top players have been taking hometown discounts for years. Sedins, Kesler, Bieksa, Hamhuis, etc etc. If players wants to be here they will take less. Vancouver is a great place to play and Live.... unless you're an NBA player.

add in that horvat seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I think he'll do well in the nhl this year on a 3rd line role.

I do too. Learn from the Sedins, work hard play an honest game. We can start calling GM Hank jr.

hoff was highly overrated. He was horrible in his own end. People just forgave him because he put up good numbers and those numbers were largely the product of playing with the Sedins on the PP.... just look at his numbers in Buffalo since!

Yeah, that's not my biggest concern as it is if they keep Bo up and he's not really much more impressive than a Richardson/Matthias in the first 9. IMO I'd only keep him up if he shows he belongs as a 3LC in the NHL.

His possession numbers were fantastic, even with Buffalo's pathetic team. Have the Sedins been as good without him since he's left? What about our PP?

Safe to say all 3 were very good offensive players that helped each other, no?

I think Horvat will learn much more from Hank than playing with any junior squad. I think it will help his development not hinder it.

I don't now if we want him to turn into a cycling machine + punching bag, he doesn't have a bro like Daniel. What do you think?

So you want him London then? He'd definitely be the leader there, especially if the Yotes are desperate enough to keep up Domi.

i don't like how use facts to back up your point :p Ya canucks PP has blown since he left.... but losing Brown as the PP coach hurt as well.... having Torts not allowing players to practice the PP probably didn't help either.

Agree, Gillis's best move by far in trading for him and arguably one of his worst moves in not finding a way to retain him.

i agree

shinkaruk....i think would benefit with the jr squad still. just a touch more patience.

but then again I think virtanen is going to cruise past him as a fan favourite in a couple years.
