every day youtube suggests 45 of his videos but i've never clicked one. i can't listen to his smarmy voice. especially if it isn't even telling a joke. and even then it was difficult.

letterman was the best of the late night shows in my lifetime and it's not even close. he was the funniest and his show was the most entertaining.

by the time i saw carson though dave was already better. i didn't get to see the real skits he'd do back in the day. at least not when they were good. like that great carnac, by the time i saw the show, when he'd whip that out it felt like more of a nostalgia thing than anything else.

dave should have got that show instead of leno.

definitely. letterman was terrific but he was still a notch below prime carson. some of it had to do with the era to be fair. carson had real stars to work with whereas letterman was trying to work within a framework of celebrities being on his show to pump their latest film, concerts, etc.

just the variety show. which was a staple in the young gramps home. mom is/was a huge dino mark.

his guest appearances on carson were legendary.
