And Drew Brees had absolutely no track record at this point in his career (14 starts) - sbroads24
He still historically could make throws that EJ Manuel still has trouble completing. His inability to hit on basic routes is nothing short of alarming at this point. |

They probably should have run more, I would agree. However, the playcalling was more than good enough to win that game. Houston didn't shut down the pass. Buffalo just missed the throws, receivers and the quarterback alike.
The Texans also loaded the box a lot in order to stop the run, most likely because they really didn't respect Buffalo's passing game at all. - buffalofan19
To quote you I don't just want to good enough. They got out coached again |

Fair enough, but when it comes to my list of why they didn't win this game, the playcalling isn't at the top.
The scary part, though, is that they'll most likely commit to the run next week because of the backlash, and Detroit isn't too bad against it. |

The Sabres were unable to draft a potential franchise defender in Aaron Ekblad—someone who they desperately needed—although settling for Sam Bennett wasn't the worst thing in the world |

They are gonna get stomped on next week. I'm not gonna even worry about it |

I didn't get to watch the whole game last night, but Makarov looked good. I think our goaltending is going to be set for a while once Makarov and Ullmark break in to the NHL. |

Not an EJ fan but, get rid of Hackett and then see what he can do. - SABRES 89
A statement I agree with. EJ inadvertently criticized the dump passes and said every now and then you gotta take a chance. Freddy Jackson said the O line was very bad.

Things I know about Makarov:
When he's on, HE'S ON
He outplayed Vasilevskiy at the last two WJCs |

Well, Makarov playing the way he did yesterday doesn't help Neuvirth's case. Between Enroth getting a shut out and Makarov looking much better than Neuvirth against the Leafs, Neuvirth is gonna be playing second fiddle to Enroth. At least at the start of the season. |

You see it in EJ in his after the game presser, He wants to throw the ball but he can't. It's his job to move the offense down the field, they need to let him do that if the O line can block. |

As was pointed out to me yesterday, though, Makarov's issue has always been consistency. |

Yea, when I saw him live at the prospect scrimmage he was outplayed by the other 3 goalies there. Last night he looked great. I think he just needs 2-3 AHL years |

The coaching staff doesn't trust him. I think it's pretty clear after 4 weeks. He wasn't completely handcuffed, and most of the throws he was allowed to make, he missed. Even the TD to Williams was underthrown by quite a bit, but fortunately a blown coverage meant that nobody was within a mile of him.
I was told this by a friend earlier this week who is a "knows somebody who knows somebody" kind of deal, but I didn't want to say too much about it until I could look and pay closer attention myself. He claims to have it on good authority that the book on Manuel is that he is incapable of making any reads beyond his first one. If his first option isn't open, he's essentially toast. Now, I still don't completely buy it. My main problem with him is his accuracy, but Solomon Wilcots did point out (correctly) that Manuel did miss numerous open receivers yesterday. If it is correct, this is a big blunder on the coaching staff. |

I don't want him in the NHL this year, but I would like to see him get the starting job and be allowed to work through it in Rochester. |

Correct, but Makarov isn't going to be in Buffalo. He'll be in Rochester. But the fact that Neuvirth had as poor of on outing as he did and then Makarov to play as well as he did is only going to push Nolan toward starting Enroth over him. |

Come, on.... It was a 45 yard throw while he was moving towards the sideline. That was about as good of a throw you can make. I can throw a football pretty well and played baseball for over a decade, it's tough to throw far on the move |

Williams sat there and had to wait for it. It was a tough throw to make, and one that most likely would not have been completed in coverage. It wasn't a terrible throw. It wasn't a great one either.
Btw, I can throw a football pretty well too. |

So for the next nine months, I have the trade deadline and the NHL draft to look forward to, now that it's week 4 and the Bills are mentally eliminated from contention |

Another mistake by the Bills yet again, let's see how they escape from this. |
