I personally don't have a problem with the Tinordi hit. As was stated, it's hard for him to make a shoulder check NOT to the head. My only question would, if that's the case, why not use a hip check? I know that Tinordi shouldn't have to alter his game to account for a size disparity, but at the same time, either check would have separated the player from the puck on the play in question.
