The ECF pretty much goes inline with the analysis provided. - Pecafan Fan
I'm no fancy stat expert, but I doubt Gorges was a possession driver. He was playing a lot of minutes for the team last year. Habs replaced him with Gilbert who is known for his great numbers possession wise.
Replacing Murray by Tinordi or Beaulieu won't hurt either. |

possession time definitely needs to improve... even against Boston, felt like Montreal never had the puck. - DoubleDown
Except for Desharnais our centers are not real good at puck possession. I think it's part of the problem.
Galchenyuk could be a solution.
But with Eller, Plekanec and Malhotra I'm pretty sure it will be more of a counter attack, or pressure the D and create turnovers. |

SJ is a great possession team.
And yet they suck in the playoffs. |

Habs would suck in the playoffs too if they had to play the Kings, the Blues, the Ducks and the Hawks to go through the conference every year. |

well i'm with fredo on this one. i think your centers are bigger possession drivers than your defencemen and Montreal just doesn't have the centers to drive possession. Gilbert/Beaulieu should help a bit but i still don't see the issue being resolved or Montreal being a top 15 possession team. |

I agree that playing against these 4 teams at the same time that the Habs would suck |

watching Montreal play LA and SJ last year was... just a soul-crushing experience.
though for whatever reason, they played the Ducks well. |

I think it's pretty close between the two, because while D's are not as implicated in the play, they have more ice time than Centers. Gilbert should play close to 18-20 minutes a night with 2nd special units time. I think top4 D's are as important as Centers in that aspect. |

A good outlet pass in stride will help the center more than having to retrieve the puck because all the D could do is shoot it by the boards. But the centers are key. |
