It was just a tryout, but still....shows his worth. He'll probably hang on somewhere at a super low salary or go overseas I imagine. |

In a year where last place is "the goal", I don't see how keeping him here is a problem. - buffalofan19
Strong point. IMO keep Sam up at the number 2 center and let him grow with the team, send Grigo to the merks. Unfortunately every team faces injury issues. In a perfect world if a Top 6 center goes down recall grigo and bottom 6 recall Larsson (hopefully will recover soon). Other than the world juniors i believe Reinhart going back to juniors is unnecessary |

I read somewhere that this would be his 4th year in Juniors. How much more can he benefit there? |

Problem is Reinhart looks like Grigorenko 2 years ago.
He needs to get better within the next 2 weeks |

Just adding to your comment.
I believe I remember Mr. Murray stating that no matter who we drafted they were most likely being sent down. |

Agreed. Even though he's not scoring it doesn't mean it's a hazard playing him. Everyone wants him to get adjusted to the speed of the nhl. So imo why send him back to the WHL to grow? He's a year older and his talent alone can allow him to dominate. Let him play at the speed of the nhl, just because he's not lighting up the scoresheet doesn't mean he hasn't grown with each game this preseason.
Take the risk..It's the year to do it unlike with Grigo |

Reinhart to Kootaney - Needs to develop physically. Some of you will argue until you are blue in the face that juniors "offer nothing" to Reinhart. As far as a skill set, most of you are likely correct. He most certainly needs to develop his speed and strength as well as shoot the puck more, which was on his scouting report well before the draft. Juniors will be used to simply develop his physical attributes. Now, some of you will make sure to fire back "but he can be under the tutilage of NHL leaders and trainers!"
A) Waste of contract
B) 18 years old
Next point, "If he's bad he'll help the tank!"
Yeah, let's ruin his confidence like Grigorenko. Good plan.
The kid needs to physically develop. It's plainly obvious. There's no shame in sending him down to finish his junior career. He'll go back with NHL experience and the knowledge of things to work on from NHL trainers and coaches.
Grigorenko to Rochester - He's the complete opposite of Girgensons. All the skill in the world with his physical attributes always trailing behind. Well, we're finally seeing him develop into a more physically (and mentally) mature hockey player. Let him play his full season playing top minutes in Rochester. If he deserves a call up, fantastic. There's no need to stick him in this line up. We don't need him sucking or being great. Both scenarios put the Sabres in a lose lose. I want to see the kid develop further and hopefully dominate in the A.
Feels good to rant again. |

It's not about "under the tutelage of NHL coaches and trainers". It's about the fact that if strength and conditioning is his issue, it's highly doubtful he gets that in Juniors. You send a kid down to Juniors if he can improve down there, not putting him there for the sake of putting him there.
The issue with Grigorenko wasn't necessarily that he was kept here. It's that they kept him here but didn't really have a plan for him. If you're going to keep a kid here, then put him in a position to succeed. The Sabres never did that, under Ruff, Rolston, or Nolan. That being said, Rochester is the perfect place for him right now.

While i do see your point, age and burning a contract year shouldn't be the main focus of sending a player back to juniors. It's how much the player can progress playing against younger opponents compared to playing in the nhl. In this case other than the WJC i don't see a point having him play in juniors

The point is he's 18 and needs to hit the gym. Im sure he will learn a ton on his 9 game call up and we will send him back to juniors with a list of things he can work. Making mistakes in juniors is a lot different than making mistakes in the big league. |

Alright, then let's say they have a plan for Reinhart (Reinhardt) and he's not succeeding. So you burn a year on a contract of an 18 year old simply to work him out in the gym and in practice? You play him on the top two lines and he's not succeeding? That makes no sense. He most certainly has the maturity to continue developing his body and his shooting while in juniors. Yes, the NHL-CHL agreement should be amended somehow to allow "elite players" (definition to be discussed later) to forgo a fourth year of juniors and be able to enter the AHL. He's simply just not physically ready and it has shown multiple times. What's the point in rushing him up here? The kid has 20 years to play. The Sabres aren't going anywhere with or without him this year. I fail to see the rush. Especially when he can continue to work on certain facets of his game and his strength and speed in Kootaney. |

That could be said for keeping him here. If he looks like Grigo did 2 years ago, he doesn't belong here |

If he's not "100% ready" (words used by Nolan/Murray) he simply just shouldn't play here. I just don't see a reason why he needs to be here. Why burna year of his contract if he's not ready for the NHL yet? I understand people want to watch him. And working out up here may be more effective than working out down there. But if he's not ready to play, he's not ready to play. Like I said before, he's got 20 years to play. He's not Crosby and he's not MacKinnon. There's no harm letting him roll one more year if he's not ready for the big leagues. He can get stronger this year. He has a few years to grow his body still. |
