So you're basically saying we are (frank)ed??? Am I reading into this correctly? - GOA88
No, I'm saying saying that keeping Morin over any of our 6 right now is not a reward (trading a higher AAV contract for a rookie entry level deal) because you can't trade any of the ones you'd even want to.
Need to stay the course with Morin, Ghost, Hagg and Sanheim. If it was 3 years ago with the d we had...maybe it would be a different decision. |

They aren't mediocre as players but mediocre as a whole. Its a little frustrating - GOA88
What's frustrating about it? The Season hasn't even started yet. I think they're missing that top player. But of the Flyers play an improved team game, they can be a solid team with the defense they have. |

Drawback, he struggles and the Flyers waste a year of his ELC, not to mention the player getting to his bridg contract faster, as well as getting to UFA eligibility faster. Pros and cons. - MJL
Yes, thanks. I should have had that on my RISKS list. |

OT, but any Walking Dead fans here? I've been binge watching starting from EP 1 over the last couple of days. It's amazing. I've spent so much time watching a show about zombies that I've turned into one. Now that's ironic |

They are all NHL quality d-men. But thats about where it stops.
Having six 3-6 d-men would be great if you had a #1 or #2.
We have 6 guys playing above where they should be playing.
Looking at other d-groups in the conference.. we are pretttty weak. |

Absolutely. There's risks and rewards. I trust the Flyers to do what they think is best for him. Personally, I'd give him the 9 games (if he's earned a spot) and evaluate him as those games progress. |

Didn't think I would have to explain the game at such a rudimentary level. It's pre season, where a lot of the veterans are out just trying to get a work out in and aren't playing with a lot of emotion, and are basically trying to not get hurt, in a meaningless game. Secondly, even the best of NHL defenseman get beaten on plays. So showing a replay of one play, doesn't mean a whole lot. Thirdly, if something like that happens in a game that means something, and happens repeatedly, then I'd have a concern. But otherwise, one play in a pre season game, isn't concerning to me. |

I wouldn't want to play MacDonald on a top pairing with Weber if the Flyers had him. Let alone on a top pairing with Coburn. |

OK. Which contract are you trading? Do you think they can trade A Mac or Streit with those deals? Even taking back half...not gonna happen.
Grossmann? With his injury history? Not gonna happen.
MDZ? Well, considering he was signed in August and any other team in the league could have had him? Doubt it. It's not like he's lit it up.
So you have Schenn and Coburn? Not getting a whole lot for Schenn. And do you really want to trade Coburn? - TheGreat28
Ah, good. Other than MDZ, all of those guys are signed past this year. Guess we won't be able to get more than one of Ghost, Alt, Hagg, or Morin into the league for another 3 years. |

Not saying that you're wrong, but I just have a different opinion. I'd send him back now, and put my regular lineup on the ice for the last pre season game. |

I know it's preseason, but let me just ask: Based on play on the ice so far, has he performed at a level better than one of our top-6 vets? |

Unfortunately, time is the only way out of this problem I think. They have two more years of Coburn, Grossmann, and Schenn. 3 more years of Streit. And I can't even count high enough on A Mac.
So slotwise, unless MDZ really lights it up, they'll have one slot next year. If Grossmann has a decent, injury-free year you might be able to trade him and maybe open two slots. I think you wouldn't bring in more than 2 rookies anyway, and even bringing in 2 is risky.
So really they bring up one or two of the kids over the next 2-3 years. And then it will take a couple of years to gel. I think you have to figure the D will be really good in 3 years. |

I think Grossmann could be moved. Maybe not for a second, but remember, they couldn't give Meszaros away, and ended up with a 3rd for him. I think you could move him, just maybe not at the present moment. |

Yes, I would put him above Del Zotto for sure. But I don't think it's an apples to apples comparison when comparing players who are motivated to try and achive a goal of becomining an NHL player, versus players who are established and aren't playing with the same motivation in the pre season. |
