I never gave up and I did have some doubts . After seeing him last game . I'm all in . Just hope he stays the course consistently. He will only get even better.

MacKinnon did drop for a while. And you're assuming McDavid will be successful. Yakupov was 1st overall and has had his fair share of struggles.

Look at the players those guys had the chance to play with when they came into the NHL. Look at Grigs line mates . lol

I can't say for sure but Im willing to bet guys like Tavares and Hall had some less than stellar line mates for the majority of their rookie years.

And I seriously doubt Grigorenko would have put up Mackinnon like numbers in Colorado.

Galchenyuk (yes i know he's officially american) and Yakupov went 1st and 3rd that year. You don't fall that many spots in a span of a few months unless there's something missing to your game.

Revisionist history . He took a steep fall because he came down with Mono and his play tailed off . Ever had Mono ? I have . It drags you out so bad I am really surprised he could play at even a medium level.

His ranking took a drop before the playoffs and then actually went back up to 3rd in the final rankings. and yet 11 teams passed on him, I doubt that was because of his mono.

Just that the difference between Mackinnon and Grigorenko is that one just might turn into a star vs mackinnon stepping in and being one right away.

And his mono condition did not come out till after the draft and how it really hurt his play. As said before players develop on different timetables . Just because MacKinnon flourished early does not mean Grigorenko cannot be a great player also.

I don't disagree with the fact that it diminished his play, but scouts would have taken that into account, draft rankings did and gave him the benefit of the doubt(except for tsn) and he still slid to 12.
