Is Luke Schenn (the guy they traded for) not a huge portion of this issue? Schenn is part of the reason our defense is a problem. - jak521
He certainly could be, or he could be part of the solution. Which Luke Schenn are we going to see? The inconsistent defenseman, or the defenseman that has elevated his game at times? |

Not at 7 million though. I would have picked him up next offseason if he would have taken a 5.5 mil contract with a nice home team discount. - TheGreat28

I believe this to be the case, yes. He's a teenager playing in the AHL. His contract will slide as though he's in juniors.
As long as he doesn't get recalled to the Flyers this season and play 10 or more games. - bradleyc4
Yeah, Honka and Hagg look to be the only ones this year. |

7 years, 7.25 per year. 50.75 million.
Sorry, but no way is he worth that.
I think he really did a nice job of leveraging the whole "I'd love to play for my home team" thing. |

Btw, huge hat tip to Jsaq for the link to WOI. Could be better than ExtraSkater when they finally stabilize performance and make it usable on mobile:

They will still need to paper recall two of Hagg, Straka & Ghost to maximize cap space. - Feanor
Why are you thinking this?
Right now, without Morin, they are just about over the cap by exactly Pronger's cap hit. So they LTIR Pronger before the season, but leave Timonen on the roster until after start of the season then LTIR him. That gives them Timonen's cap hit for the whole year. They've also maximized Pronger's hit by being over by the exact amount. |

Well I can agree with many, Ryan isn't worth that. To me, that's a desperate way to keep a player they consider a star. |

I disagree. If you pair Schenn with Timonen or MacDonald, he's fine. If you place him with Meszaros or Gustafsson, he struggles. The reason why he struggles seems obvious to me. - SuperSchennBros
Because he isnt that good? |

Is that not a problem in and of itself?
They guy completely lacks any consistency, and when he is on is A ( more like B-) game he really isnt much better than Nik Grossmann. THAT is a problem. |

But seriously, he lead Ottawa to believe that was an option too. Had them over a 50 million dollar barrel I guess. |

It's complicated, but Feanor's right. Jsaq's plan of demoting Schultz and LTIR'ing White seems to be a bit more elegant, though. |

Ok, if the three of you believe it, I'm convinced.
But just to learn me a bit, what's the background? Per Cap Geek, with the current roster (including Schultz/White and excluding Morin) they are over by 4.936 million. Pronger is 4.941 million. They have 24 players on roster too. So they LTIR Pronger before the season and that gets them to the cap without any additional moves.
What am I missing? |

If Morin's on the roster, you have to account for him all throughout. He doesn't just appear after they LTIR Pronger. |

Oh, ok I see the disconnect.
My point is that they need to send Morin down now because it will require too many moves to keep him, and risking a few waiver losses. It's not worth the 9 games, in my opinion. Especially when you throw in the potential impact to Schenn or MDZ's confidence. |

MDZ's confidence is a concern. I think that is his main problem. I think the Flyers need to plug him in and see what happens. If he falters and is still not playing at an acceptable level 15-20 games in...you think about bringing up Ghost or another youngster who may be ready to take the leap. |
