I'm so glad that the Flyers squeezed into the playoffs last year and went out in the first round after not qualifying for the post season the year before and the only jobs up for grabs were two spots on the fourth line.
I just have a hard time quantifying that in my head.
- mayorofangrytown
I hear you. I believed Hextall was going to add something to this team via trade but I guess the return prices were unreasonable.
Hey the Rags made it to the Cup, and we could have beat them with a healthy Mason IMO. Anything can happen in the playoffs.

But now they have MDZ. When he puts up 176 points this year, you will feel shame.
Edit: Rinaldo works hard, therefore he will become an asset, no doubt, 100%. - jmatchett383
So Timmonen goes down and we replace him with a guy who really didn't even make the team in preseason. The job was handed to him. Schultz didn't earn a job. My excitement for Schenn 2.0 is only beginning to rise.
Our best options for two fourth line spots are an undersized kid who doesn't even put up that many pts in the AHL and brings nothing else, a 29 yr old guy from France with zero NHL experience, an Abottsford Heat cast away and Jay Rosehill.
We traded Hartnell to get RJ back. Has his plane landed yet?
Tremendous. I can't wait for the season to start. |

They traded Hartnell. That is pretty significant. They gave Coots a more offensive role and moved B. Schenn to wing. They will also have a compotent 4th line this year. That is changes to almost every forward line. Not sure what else you want.
They are also letting the youngsters grow. That is what everyone has been crying about them not doing for 30ish years. That is the biggest change in a long time. |

Where are they buying that competent fourth line, the dollar store?
Trading Hartnell, no matter what anyone wants to try to force down your throat will never be addition by subtraction. You saved a year off of a contract. Big whoop. |

So moving Hartnell and giving B. Schenn his minutes is not an improvement for this team? I am willing to bet that B. Schenn outscores Hartnell in both goals and points.
I would have rather not taken back Umbergers contract but moving Hartnell's contract and giving his minutes to a player the Flyers see as the future is a huge whoop. |

I don't have a problem with moving Hartnell as much as I do trading him for Umberger (and a 5th, I think). If you want to move him out, fine. But I'd prefer they moved him out, let RJ get CBO'd by Columbus, and then bring him in on a cheaper and/or shorter deal. That's my big problem. |

I agree I would rather not have Umbergers contract. I thought they could have done better when trading Hartnell but that is purely my opinion and not based on any actual facts. |
