Actually, Sim and Stefan have kinda similar numbers until you get to assists:

GP: Sim 469; Stefan 455
G: Sim 75; Stefan 64
A: Sim 64; Stefan 124 (likely because he played with better players than Sim)

Has Jon Sim ever missed on a breakaway towards an empty net?

- johndewar

Weird thing about Stefan is that he was deemed the "safest" pick that year... Daniel Sedin and Brendl were supposed to be the real hot talents.

So Timmonen goes down and we replace him with a guy who really didn't even make the team in preseason. The job was handed to him. Schultz didn't earn a job. My excitement for Schenn 2.0 is only beginning to rise.

Our best options for two fourth line spots are an undersized kid who doesn't even put up that many pts in the AHL and brings nothing else, a 29 yr old guy from France with zero NHL experience, an Abottsford Heat cast away and Jay Rosehill.

We traded Hartnell to get RJ back. Has his plane landed yet?

Tremendous. I can't wait for the season to start.

- mayorofangrytown

Schultz's role is to be the 7th defenseman at practice, and sitting in the press box unless someone gets hurt and they don't have time to get a replacement in from LHV in time for the next game.

10th in the AHL in scoring is nothing to sneeze at on a Phantoms team that lacked a lot of talent. He's also produced points whenever he's got a chance in the NHL - regular season, postseason or preseason.

PEB has more speed and skill in his little finger than Adam Hall did last year. He's a major upgrade at the 4C spot.

Blair Jones is a solid option for the 4th line.

Hartnell leaving is allowing a younger, cheaper, less stupid player the chance to play with Giroux.

Don't forget Denis Shvidki.

Outside of the Sedin's, that draft is pretty putrid until you get to Miller in Round 5 and Zetterberg in Round 7.

MB and Randy were tweeting about what to do with Morin - keep him or send him back. He didn't think too highly of Randy's response.

To be honest, I do think there was a little bit of 144 character information loss so I can't fully bash Randy. MB's point probably would have made a lot more sense to Randy if he had read our whole chat thread too.

Here ya go

Me to @RandyJMiller Morin is still here because he cant go to the AHL. That is the only reason in the end.

Randy to @MBFlyerfan: @RandyJMiller Morin is still here because he cant go to the AHL. That is the only reason in the end.” He can go to junior

Me to @RandyJMiller umm yeah.....but why send him down before they have to, that is my point.

Randy to @MBFlyerfan: why send morin down before they have to.”other junior players sent back. QMJHL regular season began 3 weeks ago.

Me to @RandyJMiller He would have been sent to AHL already if he was eligible.

Randy to @MBFlyerfan Not so sure

Me to @RandyJMiller fair enough

Sheetz? You need to get out of Kentucky.

Yeah you can bring your money to Sheetz. How much we talkin'?
- mickel25

Actually, forget money. You have to type something positive about the Flyers as a franchise if Schenn scores more goals and points than Hartnell.

Blair Jones reminds me a little bit of Zolnercziyck (did I get that right) in the way he plays. He seems like he should have zero to do with the NHL, but somehow or other, he can squeeze out every little bit of talent he has.

With Akeson and PEB, I think the team slightly upgraded the forwards despite losing Hartnell. They're really going to hurt from losing Timonen though. His loss was the real killer. Not only because of his own contributions but also his ability to raise the level of play of his partner

Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m'shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we... oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

I agree that Kimmo is a huge loss. But he's the only big loss in my opinion.

And if he was still healthy there would still be plenty of complaints on here about how old and slow he had gotten, especially if he was still on the top PP unit ahead of Streit.

I always type positive things about the Flyers.

This is my end of the preseason rant on what they've delivered to start the season. I like to get the negativity out now so that I can move forward and revisit it if they blow in December or January.

Come on, you know this board/fanbase. If we had a defense of Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, Zdeno Chara, 1999-era Pronger, Ryan Suter, and Ryan McDonagh, you'd hear some of the following

- "They're not mobile enough for today's NHL."
- "That's too much money spent on the blueline."
- "We'll be shorthanded all game."
- "Flyers can't develop any defensive prospects."
- "Our defense is mediocre, at best."

I agree with Randy. If Morin was AHL eligible, he would be down. The flyers would rather him get a few extra practices (maybe games) with the big club before sending him back to junior. They did it with Laughton last year.

There is some similarity, but Harry Z is a lot smaller, and not as good as producing points in the AHL. Also kind of a loose cannon out there. He almost took some poor Ottawa player's head off for no reason in 12-13.

First off, there is always a reason to take an Ottawa player's head off. I do not forgive the Niel/Chara jumping on Somik/Timander.

But yeah, I just mean that they both are scrappy players who will always be on the bubble between AHL/NHL.

Definitely. The thing I like about Jones over VdV or Rosehill on the 4th line is that he has the skills & hockey sense to work with a center like PEB to keep the play going in the offensive zone.

He was the team's most important defenseman last year imo. I expect Coburn to take a step back if he's forced to play with Amac all season instead of Timonen. He's not the type to lead a pairing.

With Timonen-Coburn, the Flyers had a passable top pairing. This year, they don't have anything close to a top pair.

Even Timonen was'nt top pair material last season. He really took a step back. He had his moments but he was battling hard to keep up. Still he is better than Del Zotto purely in hockey sense and defensive positioning. I believe Streit is more than capable of filling the hole Timonen left on the PP. For me... the defense really hinges on whether or not Coburn turns in a solid year, MacDonald isn't what the NYI fanbase thinks he is, Schenn is the Schenn from the 2nd half of last season and Del Zotto pulls it together. Lots of what "ifs" but whats new??
