Absolutely

Not saying he's not a great talent, but he's got to show me a little bit more to lump him in with the elite/world class talent

I've always felt Coburn plays best with a defense partner that he knows where he is/will be and who doesn't take too many risks.

It might work, because as you say, we haven't seen it. But the way Streit plays, with a few giveaways that offensive players make, might be hard on Coburn

Somebody said it earlier, but if MacDonald-Coburn is getting lit up, then you are gonna have to do something sooner than later, like Coburn-Grossmann

Sure seemed like whenever those two, or the Umberger-Lecavalier line were on ice at ES, the Caps were getting more zone time and shots, in addition to the two goals.

Somebody, Berube or Hextall, isn't sold on something about the defense. Because while Morin's done what was asked, he's a 19-year-old defenseman.

For him to still be around, when Laughton and Ghost are already gone...somebody with authority might be asking a few tough questions.

One part of it, as Hextall mentioned when asked about the trade rumors is, that once Morin is sent back, he's sent back for good, unless there's an emergency situation.

He was asked about the junior rules that limit Morin to the NHL or QMJHL and he said, "That's part of it".

I don't think they are happy with the defense, and that's a part of it as well. They can recall Gostisbehere or Laughton at will. but Morin...when he's gone he's gone.

I'm 100% fine with Morin being with the team for a 9 game try out, he's done well in pre-season and a short stay for regular season games isn't likely to hurt. But if they're that unhappy with the defense, they should have seen it coming long before now.

The trigger has to be Del Zotto/MacDonald. Right? It's the only thing that makes sense, because Grossmann and Streit have been fine.

To me, the only thing that makes sense is that either they really haven't liked Del Zotto's game and are afraid of having Schenn go down the drain with him, which means they are looking to put MacDonald back with Schenn because they were effective enough together, or they don't like MacDonald with Coburn AND don't love Del Zotto thus far, which means they want to move MacDonald down.

They have to be worried about multiple defensemen in order for them to risk keeping Morin.

Not sure how they could of seen it coming before now ... they were obviously hoping that Del Zotto would get his game back and players like Schenn , Coburn, and Amac would not have taken a step back so far. With this b.s. schedule that they just went through during the preseason it is now wonder there couldn't be any chemistry developed. You have to check out the young guys and nobody can play 5 nights in a row! At least it is only preseason. Hopefully they get it together soon. Streit should be back playing with Amac though!

It could be Schenn as well. I think Streit and Grossmann are the only two guys who have been solid, without any noticeably bad games.
