I cant agree with that. Just cause Hextall decided to send Morin down that does not mean he deserved it. Morin was impressive. If contracts were'nt an issue he would be playing this season. - GOA88
At this point I'd have to say that if they're letting contracts get in the way of the team they're icing we have larger issues.
Looking at Sbisa's draft these are the players who spent more than one additional yr in juniors:
Pietrangelo (drafted fourth and got 8 & 9 games out of camp his 1st two seasons)
Tubert (13)
Jake Gardiner (17)
Tyler Cuma (23)
Goloubef (37)
Roman Josi (38)
Ness (40)
Yan Sauve (41)
Justin Schultz (43)
Players who made it after one yr:
Doughty
Bogosian
Schenn
Myers
Karlsson
Sbisa (19)
Del Zotto
Carlson
Voynov (32)
So if you have talent and are going to make an impact it sure looks like you're making the show as a defender in your 2nd yr. We can always hope he's Pietrangelo I guess. |

Okay, so this whole "top pairing shutdown" thing is odd to me. These term "top pair" and "shutdown" are different players. A "top pairing guy" is a perennial all-star candidate who puts up very nice point totals and offsets and defensive deficiencies he may have by a wide margin due to his defensive and offensive contributions to the team.
A "shutdown" defender is a player whose main responsibility is to prevent goals from being scored and is not counted on to provide much offense. He is basically a stay-at-home defender. If a "shutdown" defender does this but also contributes a good deal of offense, he is not simply a shutdown defender, he is a "top pair" defender.
It's like saying Jake Voracek is a top-line grinder. - jmatchett383
I think Morin can provide stellar defense and chip in 8-10 goals 30+ assists. BOOK IT |

So because the Flyers would rather have him play in juniors a second year instead of banking on a rookie playing 82 games, he's destined to be a bust? - jmatchett383
Nope, just more likely. Where's that stats guy? |

Never thought I would celebrate the day a player with 17 points in 128 career NHL games made the team. But getting away from the goon mentality is a start. |

That's just one draft though. It would be interesting to see if that trend would hold with a larger sample size. |

What kind of music?
Country, Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, pop would all have different answers, but FWIW
Rock and Roll-Led Zeppelin
Pop- The Beatles
Progressive Rock- Rush
Metal- Black Sabbath
Jazz- Mahavishnu Orchestra
Blues- Tough one, but I'd go with Buddy Guy, love his stuff
Country-Johnny Cash
There ya go, that should start some arguments!! - BiggE

I dont think it was an easy decision to send Morin back. Berube wanted him in the lineup. Hextall was tempted to go against his beliefs. In the end.... they couldnt find anyone that wanted to take on Grossmann or Schenn. Thats what I think |

Hextall trying to erase the Holmgren gaffes one by one. He's going to need an industrial size eraser. Cmon Hexy, find a destination for MacDonald. Edmonton? Calgary??.... A South Jersey landfill if need be. - PLindbergh31
I don't mind AMac in a proper role @ a more suitable price, but all the more reason to develop the young D properly so as not to deal from desperation. |

Top pairing because he could chip in some offense and compliment a more offensive-minded player (Ghost or Sanheim hopefully) - NickTheKid87
So you are calling 09/10 Carle a top-pairing defenseman? |

Yep. MacDonald as a complimentary player on a second pairing is probably his ceiling. I would love to dump his contract, and let either Ghost or Morin play at a fraction of the cost. It's not like the Flyers are a legit contender with MacDonald anyway. |

I recently got in a debate over whether Iron Maiden or Killers was a better album. The conclusion was there's no wrong horse to back in this race. |

It doesn't have to be so literal. Don't call it top pairing then. I don't care. My point is he could be a big time shutdown defenseman who could chip in some offense if he reaches the limits of his potential. |

Can someone define what "raw" means in terms of talent assessment? It's thrown around all the time and seems like a meaningless adjective to me |

Yeah, agreed. I was looking at it for a totally different reason. I really believe that the whole "ruined him in the NHL" thing is a joke. If you have the talent to play in the NHL it typically comes fairly quickly to the forefront.
You kinda have to discount guys from overseas and college kids in the mix.
I would really like to have time to go through more but it was worth discussing I thought. I have no preconceived notion as to what Morin will become. Ghostisbehere I expect big things from and he's past the second yr thing. Being in College changes the time line I've seen in my small sample certainly. Those guys tend to stay two to three seasons at least. |

Physical potential. It mean that a players have the physical abilities to do certain things, but he has not yet put those abilities to use in such a way as to excel at those things.
It's like a lump of clay. It has the potential to become art, but until somebody uses it correctly, it is just a lump of clay. |
