Unless AMAC changes his #, 47 isn't going anywhere for the next 3-4 years minimum. - jmatchett383
If the cap keeps going up, won't MacDonald be considered a bargain? |

mostly unrelated, but sometimes my brain mistakes you for a drummer instead of a goalie. Brains are kinda funny. - BulliesPhan87
i'm a great air drummer, and i have an actual bass guitar, my favorite instrument, but i don't know how to play it, so it just mocks me on a daily basis. |

In the case your pizza is edible after 18 mins but you have to commit to an additional 18 mins. Whatcha gonna do? - mayorofangrytown
Well if the Flyers are going to wait until he's 36, then yes, I don't think he'll amount to much. Plus, you need a new oven. |

To the same degree than Bryzgalov would be a bargain, yes. |

mjl cherry picked lauridsen to make his argument while ignoring better prospects like ghost, alt, or morin which were also in the original argument. - moylander
That is incorrect. In my replies to you, I mentioned and talked about all the players you named. And stated that they either weren't going to be an NHL defenseman like Lauridsen, and that other such as Alt, Gostisbehere, needed AHL time and weren't ready for the NHL. |

nope, you're right. we can hope that over the nxt several season's he's slotted better in the lineup tho...that's all i got.... |

Wish morin could go to the A, but those are the rules. Let's see what ghost is like by Jan. If he's holding up well and is better w/o the puck, I'd be ok w/ a look see. Love to see him be a dan boyle 2.0.
I think we' re stuck w/ a lot of these contracts unless a contender has a major injury bef the TDL. but if 8, 22 or 47 were off loaded for picks, i wouldn't cry, that's for sure. - isaiah520
I'm with you. The JVR trade and the MacDonald signing.... Garbage. |

Yeah, that's not all that amazing. Let me take four hours and I'll pull all the D taken in the first and first half of the second round of the last ten yrs who spent two yrs in junior and didn't get a cup of coffee.
How many D jumped first year and didn't play 300 NHL games because of it? I'll bet the list is considerably smaller. Sbisa won't be on it. He'll get to 300 this season. - mayorofangrytown
It sounds to me like you're arguing that Morin will actually regress by going to juniors for a fourth year.
Your argument that the longer a player stays in juniors means a decrease in the chance that they will make it to the NHL doesn't make sense to me based on the improvement Morin has shown over the last three years. In his case, to me, he still has a chance to improve and one more year in juniors will allow him to do that |

Different defenseman grow at different rates. When they drafted Morin, everyone was told he was going to take time to develop.
I think he proved he can play at or close to NHL level. If they Flyers had a deep roster and a spot for Morin, I bet he'd be on this team. - PhillySportsGuy
That's my problem today. They don't!!!! Yet still there are no job openings on what is considered around the league as an overpaid joke of a D.
Really, what are they doing here? Are they trying to tell us that this D is better served up to the NHL just as is?
Who here thinks that's a good idea?
Remember... barely squeaked in last year, out the year before. |

This. I think we also need to consider that Berube may have been contemplating the fact he'd send Rosehill down leaves only Simmonds to do the real heavy lifting (Rinaldo is a lighweight) and the fact Morin can chuck them a little bit and not be a defensive liability may have been playing a factor. Also add in that Sanheim , Haag (balanced D) and Ghost all look the role of offensive Dmen and maybe they think the risk to Morin having his offensive progression stifle a bit may be a decent trade off. Not saying this is the case...just chucking out some random thoughts. |

The mix of the current D is not conducive to a championship. However, substituting Morin into the lineup in place of any one of them isn't going to magically fix that. So, if that's the case, why would you start his ELC a year earlier than needed? |

I didn't think he would actually but now that I look around at the Sbisa thing the amount of time a Defenseman stays in junior certainly correlates to his Pro career and it smacks you in the face when you look at it like that. - mayorofangrytown
I don't feel like another year in Juniors is going to factor into whether Morin becomes a top NHL defenseman. I do feel however that an argument can be made that another junior year for him, will delay his development. But if they don't feel he's ready for the NHL, then what choice to they have? In that case, putting him back in juniors is better then letting him play in a situaiton that he's not ready for. |

I'm saying our D sucks and Morin will get better maybe even faster playing in the NHL and there's nothing really standing in his way but some questionable defensemen. There's no evidence that he'll improve in junior more or less than he'll improve in the NHL.
We suck... get him in there.
Aren't you the one that provided the lame list of two year junior D men? That didn't convince you? How many years back did you have to go to populate that tiny list? |

Also, as impressive as Morin was this past pre-season, there were times where he was literally standing in the corners looking very lost. That's fine for a 19 year old, but it's clear he still has some growing to do. |

Development? Why do bubble teams and non playoff teams pull rookies into the line up if they know they can't win the cup? Why not just stash McDavid for a couple years until Buffalo can compete? They're just throwing away perfectly good ELC yrs.

At this point I'd have to say that if they're letting contracts get in the way of the team they're icing we have larger issues.
Looking at Sbisa's draft these are the players who spent more than one additional yr in juniors:
Pietrangelo (drafted fourth and got 8 & 9 games out of camp his 1st two seasons)
Tubert (13)
Jake Gardiner (17)
Tyler Cuma (23)
Goloubef (37)
Roman Josi (38)
Ness (40)
Yan Sauve (41)
Justin Schultz (43)
Players who made it after one yr:
Doughty
Bogosian
Schenn
Myers
Karlsson
Sbisa (19)
Del Zotto
Carlson
Voynov (32)
So if you have talent and are going to make an impact it sure looks like you're making the show as a defender in your 2nd yr. We can always hope he's Pietrangelo I guess. - mayorofangrytown
I haven't looked at all the players, but I'm pretty sure that Voynov spent some time in the AHL. |
