I don't feel like another year in Juniors is going to factor into whether Morin becomes a top NHL defenseman. I do feel however that an argument can be made that another junior year for him, will delay his development. But if they don't feel he's ready for the NHL, then what choice to they have? In that case, putting him back in juniors is better then letting him play in a situaiton that he's not ready for. - MJL
Honestly, is he any more or less ready than Schenn or Schultz or even Del Zotto the way he's played? |

I haven't looked at all the players, but I'm pretty sure that Voynov spent some time in the AHL. - MJL
The season after his draft yr. The second season he was on the NHL club. He jumped right to pro, yes. |

I'm saying our D sucks and Morin will get better maybe even faster playing in the NHL and there's nothing really standing in his way but some questionable defensemen. There's no evidence that he'll improve in junior more or less than he'll improve in the NHL.
We suck... get him in there.
Aren't you the one that provided the lame list of two year junior D men? That didn't convince you? How many years back did you have to go to populate that tiny list? - mayorofangrytown
I agree the Flyers D sucks.
That list was of players who spent 4 years in juniors, not two. Maybe I'm confused about the number of years you are taking into account. Are you saying players who spent two additional years AFTER they were drafted? Or just years spent in juniors in general.
Sorry my list was so lame. I just made it a few minutes ago. |

Between Rosehill, Stortini, and Derek Mathers, those Phantoms games are going to be about 4 hours long. - johndewar
I think those that are happy and excited about Rosehill being waived might want to table that excitement until opening day. |

I'm with you. The JVR trade and the MacDonald signing.... Garbage. - PLindbergh31
homer made some better moves after the JVR fiasco, so he deserves credit for mason (i hope) and some of the drafting and hanging on to assets a little better towards the end. |

Why? Surely such a valuable commodity will be claimed by another team. |

...or rethink it the first time we play the Leafs and they ice an Orr/McLaren line that starts going after our best skaters. I for one dont want Simmonds breaking a hand on those numbskulls heads. |

That's my problem today. They don't!!!! Yet still there are no job openings on what is considered around the league as an overpaid joke of a D.
Really, what are they doing here? Are they trying to tell us that this D is better served up to the NHL just as is?
Who here thinks that's a good idea?
Remember... barely squeaked in last year, out the year before. - mayorofangrytown
I do. Right now, the current defense is better then if they had kept Morin and Gostisbehere. And it's also better for those players to go back to the AHL, and juniors. |

I'm talking about Junior players, specifically D, who went back for more than one yr after they were drafted.
My list is a small sample. Sorry for calling yours lame. The effort was there. |

I don't think they want to bring a young defenseman into this mess. I don't think they want to ruin the confidence of any of them.
The worst thing that could happen is if the team keeps them up then has to send them back.
These are only 19-20 year old kids right now. It could (frank) with their head. In their minds, they'll feel like they're regressing. |

Yes, I think he is. Things will change once the regular season starts. Pre season is different. And why even compare him to Schultz? Unless you think it's a good idea for Morin to be placed in the role of a 7th defenseman, and spend time in the press box. |

There's the difference in development time that you're overlooking. Some players are eligible to go to the AHL, some aren't. Some it's either the NHL or back to juniors. If Voynov wasn't eligible for the AHL the season after his draft year, what do you think would've happened? |

So you'd call Slava Voynov, TJ Brodie, Torrey Krug, and Andrej Benoit top-pair defenders? - jmatchett383
Are they stellar at defense? NO

Nah, leave him sit. Vets and rookies both played in preseason. The vets looked terrible, the rookies weren't perfect but they outplayed the vets. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work? You compete for jobs?
Only on this glorious club there are no jobs. No jobs because it's sooooooo great on the back end. The league marvels at how well constructed and reliable our D is. They can barely contain their admiration...
No jobs available.
It's stupifying. |

Because neither Gostibihere or Morin are ready for the NHL in my opinion. Both need further development time. |

Ideally, someone is traded by December and Ghost steps in after some seasoning. That's what I'm hoping for. But Ghost needs to prove he can handle an professional forecheck on a nightly basis. |

He would have stayed in Europe 1 yr and jumped to the NHL.
I think you missed the cut off point here? In the NHL one year after being drafted. I don't care where they played. Junior, AHL...
I have to give some leeway to college kids, they aren't likely to jump. Non North Americans get less leeway but still some. |

There's no reason to debate it. I think they're as ready for NHL games as some of the schmos we have back there. |

That's comparing veteran NHL players who in the pre season aren't neccessarily playing all out. Are just looking to get into top skating shape, working off the rust. And trying not to get hurt. To young players who are highly motivated to make the NHL, and are playing with a lot more emotion behind their game.
Put both in the lineup and compare once the season starts and the games actually mean something. To both the players on the Flyers and the opposition.
The only job that might have possibly been open this camp, is the 6th spot with Del Zotto. But it's better to be on the safe side, let Gostisbehere go down to the AHL, spend some time adjusting to the pro game, and see what happens from there. That's what's best for both sides at this point. Both the team and the player. |

Voynov was in the AHL for three years. Three. He didn't play an NHL game till he was 21.

I feel that way as well.... Its the same circus act we call defense, again. Maybe if we make no changes things will be different. I guess I don't see how a guy like nick leddy can fill Brian Campbell's shoes at age 19 but ghost can't fill Grossmann or Schenn's shoes at age 21. Our defense is so slow yet so many fans cling to these slow defenders like they are irreplaceable. Trade them for picks, free up salary, open up roster spots and draft more prospects with the picks. |
