Im still on the fence...to be fair I have seen the games but don't see him at practices or how he's handled things off the ice, day in and day out. I will caution though... yes there's Sbisa...but there's also some talented Kids' who do grow as an 18 or 19 year old while cutting teeth in the NHL.....Pronger as an example.....Vlasic.....Neidermyer....Boumeester....it depends on individual. It depends on if they feel there is anything to gain by sending him back to the Q (I think there is). : He's huge...he can skate...he's not intimidated and has a physical element to him......personally I think he goes back.
something know one wants to mention.....Morin can play more then 9 games and still go back ...yes I know it burns a year off of the ELC but he can still be returned at anytime....Considering his future in the organization Im not sure they would lose to much sleep over that ...he could still play in the World Jrs and so on.
- landros 2
Burning the year off the ELC is a bad thing. Earlier need for a non-ELC and a sooner path to a bigger cap hit. Depending on games played, it could mean sooner RFA/UFA status.
There's no real downside to a year in the Q. There's a lot more risk/potential downside in rushing him. Bill made an excellent point about keeping him past 9 games and then sending him down, when he referenced Sbisa. |

I think that during the course of this season, the flyers will realize that Brayden Schenn is neither a power forward nor a finisher and will be removed from the first line. I believe that spot will eventually belong to Jason Akeson who, despite some shortcomings, has shown signs that he can be a finisher at the NHL level.....something the flyers desperately need but never seem to attain. - jeffherrm
The kid does finish....and some guy's explode beyond there AHL stats when they play with guys that are actually better. Not that agree that Schenn will regress....Big, big year for that kid. |

If he can't produce on that line then he should be moved from the team. I am hoping for at least 25 goals from him while playing with G and Jake. |

agree on all points...just pointing the other side of agruement, and one Im sure Flyers are having, hence why he's still there....maybe not after 11 am today...but still there now. |

If the Flyers are depending on Morin because they have sudden defense concerns, then maybe Hextall won't be the savior we hoped for. Because a lot of smart fans and media types had concerns for the defense at the start of summer |

Don't worry, keeping Morin will fix that - Jsaquella
Might for a game or two, but I wouldnt be keeping him. Hell, I wouldnt even do the full 9 games.
I still cant believe how easy it is for people to enter the zone on MacDaddy.
He gave up 30 feet to the Butcher on that kids goal. a 1-2 and there was ZERO defense of the blue line. |

I haven't hunted any stats down, but it sure seemed to me that they spent a lot of time in their own end. |

obviously not....I like Hextall...I like his style. The decision about Morin is all about where he has a better chance to develop. He's obviously good enough now to play in the top 6. |

But in fairness to Hextall, he really didn't have many options given the cap situation he was dealt. And it was further complicated by Timonen's injury. To me, he get's a pass for this year. Actually, I will rate him this year on his ability to stay the course and not make a panic move that costs us picks or young players. |

I still think that if Morin were AHL eligible we wouldn't even be talking about this. He would have been sent down with Ghost and that would be that.
But since the only option is back to Rimooskee, they want to hold on to him a little longer to get a better read on him and to get him a little more instruction and experience as to what to expect when he does make a play for the big club next season.

And seemed to be pretty reliant on the powerplay to generate a lot of their offense |

No, he didn't. But a good camp and the subpar defense shouldn't suddenly cause the Flyers to decide to rush one of their kids, after the long and repeated statements about not rushing them and recognizing they need time.

Good post. The Sbisa/Morin dichotomy is played out pretty well in this blog and posts. You can destroy a young Dman's confidence and development by pushing him into competition he is not ready to handle. On the other hand, young guys need progression in their game. If not challenged progress can fall off. 9 games with the Flyers, a stint with Team Canada at the world juniors and a trade to a Memorial Cup contender and a long run in the playoffs would make for a solid development year. (Note: Rimouski is off to a great start so maybe the Memorial Cup run has already started for Morin). - spatso
Good post also. I always appreciate your posts - good hockey analysis without trolling. |

I disagree.. their power play was a weakness last night. I believe they went 0-5.
They were very strong 5v5 last night. Moved the puck, forechecked ferociously, caused turnovers and got a lot of good chances |

Actually, I'll confess that I didn't see the game. The wife dragged me down to the Philly Night Market last night, so I only read about it on Philly.com. Probably my first mistake |

I believe Morin will get a 9 game look and Hexy will be making some tough decisions after the new year. I can't see this team being a playoff team with the defense we have. We will be sellers at the trade deadline and hopefully we can make some moves that will help us going into next season. |

"I've said this over and over. Tell me one player that's been hurt by being sent back to junior, being trained the right way, playing in the AHL. Then you look at the players who have been hurt by playing in the NHL too early. The list is long."
- Ron Hextall
You're pulling out the names of a few players who didn't struggle to make your point. And actually, I thought Pronger did struggle a bit, which is why he was traded from St. Louis or was it Hartford. Same with Boumeester. He didn't really set the world on fire at first. |

How comes know one wants to give Rinaldo and the 4th line some credit for their play last night? We are great at bashing Rinaldo. Thought he played a solid game last night again. |

Yet every year, around this time, fans of every stripe insist that their kid is the one that won't be "challenged" if sent back. And every year, we see 18/19-yo's thrown into the deep end, and have near-drowning experiences... or end up never coming close to tapping their full potential when they were deprived the confidence/development benefits of another junior/AHL season.
And then we see kids like Laughton all the time, who are sent back for D+1 and come back much better players. |
