Both are puck moving types. - MJL
I would hardly call Alt an offensive defensive. |

I didn't call him an offensive defenseman. He is a puck mover. Very similar style of player to Del Zotto at this point. Not stay at home physical types. |

I remember when the Flyers drafted Morin, and all the complaining. Should've taken someone else. Now there is excitement for the player. - MJL
So there wouldn't be excitement over Pulock or Zadorov? |

I guess I don't see the similarity in the way they play. |

If what I'm reading from the beats is correct. The Flyers are not going to maximize the LTIR cap space they could get for Pronger on LTIR. They will start the season with Timonen on IR, not on LTIR. Pronger and White on LTIR. Putting the Flyers 55K under the Upper Limit.
Edit: I take part of that back. Looking at the numbers again. By putting Pronger on LTIR now, they are getting 4,886,429 of LTIR cap space by placing Pronger on LTIR. Versus the maximum of $4,941,429. So just a little short. |

You missed the point. Not that there wouldn't be excitement over those players. But that some felt the Flyers made a bad pick. Looks so far like they were wrong. Knock on wood.

Well Del Zotto is more offensive, or at least he used to be. So not exactly the same. But in the same mold. |

I'm sorry people. I think Taveras is really good young player who is only going to get better. But he is not better then Claude Giroux. No way, no how. Someone at TSN is on drugs. |

At the time Ryan Pulock seemed like an ideal pick up but Travis Sanheim erases that one time head scratcher. |

Agreed!
Whatever happened at the junior ranks doesn't matter at this level. Those achievements certainly add to the resume but at this level, the NHL level, Giroux has achieved so much more.
Claude Giroux wasn't handed the number one center role by expectation due to drafting order. Heck, he wasn't expected to be a center at all. He had to work his way through the line up and pass notable names such as Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Danny Briere. He has seen a Stanley Cup Final as a key contributor, a former Hart Trophy nominee and has come up third in points twice within the last three seasons. He's an elite passer, a two way center and plays in all situations.
Claude Giroux in my mind a top five talent only behind Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos and Evgeni Malkin. Jonathon Toews, Patrick Kane, Anze Kopitar are notable talents but I feel Giroux doesn't have the same support they do. John Tavares on the other hand has to prove he can carry the islanders on his back the same way Giroux does with the Flyers. |

Escalators don't have nearly high enough sides for my liking. Especially in places where people will have been drinking. Not saying this fan was drunk, but the first time I went to the WFC I thought - these things are death traps. |

You repeated it after I showed that it was false.
The more interesting thing is how you got the idea in your head that Slava Voynov made the Kings after one year in the AHL in the first place. |

I'd personally put Toews and Kopitar ahead of Giroux. Due to their all around game. But not Taveras.

I don't think a lot of the beats have ever heard about LTIR Option 2. I predict a lot of confused tweets from them if the Flyers do go that route and do some paper recalls and demotions to maximize cap space. |

Because there isn't much similarity. Alt is no where near an offensive defensemen. He's a solid two way guy, capable of moving the puck out of the zone, but he's never been a huge point producer.
Del Zotto is an offensive defenseman, who is limited in his own end. He's smallish, while Alt is bigger and more capable of playing a physical game. |

I don't think the beats are writing this on their own. I think that's what they got from the Flyers. And the numbers add up. Using Option 2 doesn't change much from what the beats are saying the Flyers are doing.

Sure there are similarities. They are both puck moving defenseman. Alt is not he classic physical stay at home defenseman type. While Del Zotto is, or has been more of a point producer, and Alt is a little more defensive. Where the similarities are is where they meet in the middle, as both are puck moving mobile defenseman.
