poor guy but pretty good recovery. Better than that girl that just bolted when she tripped. |

I didnt ask any questions at all but here's what I was told.
1. Gillis wanted to fire Torts back in January. I find it believable. Nothing on his firing but its likely that FA pushed for Torts to be hired.
2. Gillis wanted to fire AV but wasnt allowed. I call BS on this. FA was not supportive of all for AV when Gillis was hired.... Gillis convinced FA to keep AV at a time when Quenville was available.
3.Gillis wanted to trade Kesler long before he requested a trade. Again I call BS. He would be trading down most likely while the Canucks were contenders... traded Cody and drafted Schroeder. If its true, he was looking at failing big time. No mention of a potential deal or a discussion with Kesler... Gillis claimed he would never request waiving of NTC's to these team leaders so... makes no sense one way or the other.
4. Wanted to trade Luongo before he requested a trade himself. Owner said no. . Again, the NTC was something Gillis claimed he wouldnt dishonor.... but with the emergence of Schneider it did make sense to have done it.... Im on the fence on this one but the one comical quote was "I spent more time negotiating with Mrs. Luongo than his agent".
Does this not sound familiar? He said the same thing about Hodgson's father when he was under a lot of fan and media pressure for that trade. Almost word for word actually and it was denied by both Hodgson and agent. Think about it... how unprofessional is that.... letting someones wife/father do all the talking?
One thing that is clear to me, the owner is too involved and Gillis is definitely using rumors in the media to cover his pathetic ass. There was not a single mention of Gillis admitting he made poor choices. Just throwing people under the bus as usual. - boonerbuck
Such is life.
The guy said he was going to be bold and make bold moves and didn't pick his spots very well, made a few good moves that may include some re-signings but sat on his hands after the big spooge.
But yeah, none of it was his doing, pres, gm and chief bottle washer. |

I don't know where I thought I was, or what was expected, but with all that front end hype, I expected something meatier, like:
Gillis was drunk at the 2008 draft: It's true, I had too many, I admit it. |

Gillis is a first class piece of poop! FA as much as admitted, after he hired Linden, that he's realized the success of the team doesn't lie with him. He's gotta let the NHL people do their jobs.
Anyways, enough about that. |

I think that James Duthie story has him coming across as a blow hard. Just like in life so many people say and do two different things.
Saturday night no holds barred, or something ain't it? let it all out. |

Is he working? I (personally) don't think he'll ever have a front office job like that, ever, ever again. Maybe AHL. Maybe.
I heard/think/suspect he is a bit of a pariah in the nepotistic, small circle of hockey movers and shakers. |

I heard a few analysts say they believe he will find front office work somewhere. I find it hard to believe but I guess a stanley cup final is a nice thing to have on your resume..... |

Especially since he didn't create the core that got him there, only made some minot tweaks and was lucky enough to be there when they all peaked at the same time. His failings were legion and he'll eventually go down as an underachieving GM who let his ego get in the way of good decision-making, his penchant for distorting the truth and ruthless media manipulation and yes... the Luongo/Schneider fiasco. |

The Luongo/Schneider fiasco, the Luongo captianency fiasco, the Booth fiasco, the Ballard fiasco, the Torts fiasco, the Roy fiasco, the Hodgson fiasco, the drafting fiasco, the NTC fiascos... Other then that, great gm. |

Now now, no need to kick a man in the nads when he's already down with a wedgie and been swirlied at the same time, it's just overkill. |
