Fair enough, but we didn't have Sestito in the line-up either

I saw some very positive signs, regardless of if it was pres-season or not. First of all, as Thunda pointed out, the game was uptempo with some aggresive forechecking and quite a few chances created. Second of all, it looks like *tap wood* (no, NOT my noggin'), Sedins, Burrows and everyone (other than Bieksa, whom I hope is out only for a few games) looks healthy. It's a HUGE difference from what was last season's debacle - you could say the same thing about the games they played at that time, in that they, like these pre-season games, mean nothing, and basically finished the season with a nary a whimper

So, yes, pre-season games do count for something - maybe they are meaningless in the grande scheme of things but they are important to get your team set up properly for the real deal.

PS I think it was a mistake to sit out Nuge and Hopkins and Perron - the last pre-season game should pretty much contain your opening night roster, with the exception of one or two players on the bubble.

Ok I will disregarde the fact that The oilers couldn't be bothered to send out their top line to the game, or their top D. I won't look at the fact that they left all thier toughness off the ice, and instead took one last look at some bubble players to see if they were NHL ready.

I will try to look at it as The Oilers actually did give a damn about last nights game and did send out their best line up.

My summary would still be Canucks had a good first period then hung on to beat a bottom 10 team . Plan the friggen parade.

Is that better?

Last game was more of an NHL line up for the Oilers. Carol even said in her blog this is an AHL lineup

The Luongo/Schneider fiasco, the Luongo captianency fiasco, the Booth fiasco, the Ballard fiasco, the Torts fiasco, the Roy fiasco, the Hodgson fiasco, the drafting fiasco, the NTC fiascos... Other then that, great gm.

I thought they looked a great deal like the Canucks of 2012-2013 in the last two periods. Grab an early lead and hold on for dear life. As everyone is saying it is the preseason but I hoped to see more from Kassian, Bonino, Burrows, the Danes (were they even playing?), and I won't even mention Sbisa. As you mentioned, this is a preseason game so nobody gave a poop, but it's all we have to go on for the moment. Hopefully when the roster is set and we get our first few games we'll have a better indication of how things are going to look. Even then though, if you look at us vs. the Rangers last year, we looked like we were going to finish top 5 in the West and they seemed destined for a top 10 pick. We got the top 10 pick and they made the SCF We never really know for sure

Wish I had a chance to watch the game.

Me too. Looks like (from the highlights) that it would have been four or five nothing in the first.

If we play all 3 periods like the first then is is a great game. There is a lot of work ahead of us for sure, but there is promise in the new system. I am happy with the way this preseason went compared to other past ones. I think the starters got enough time and so did the prospects. Willie should have a clear picture heading into the season of what to work on.

I think it is just our compete level that needs work at this point. Make is much more consistent, we should have enough guys that can get it done. Let's drop the puck!

There were flashes of good offense. The 3 goals we all stoppable shots and Scrivens where he was cheating on two.

was a horrible game in terms of good hockey. Mostly because the oilers were so lost out there. And ya it could easily have been a bigger blowout in the 1st, the oilers couldn't even get a shot on net.

As Vantel mentioned, oilers didn't ice their top lines though.

Dorsett is a great addition out there, always getting people rattled up. Most games thats all you'll need out there.

I think with this current roster we move up or down 3 spots only.
