Whenever someone says the Flyers need more enforcers, size and toughness, I think about the '97 Finals - PhillySportsGuy
Gah!!! Not going back there.... I've since replaced that finals memory with the chick in 'my girl' sitting on the stairs, plugging her ears and singing "Do Wah Diddy Diddy". |

I just checked hockey reference. The Black Hawks had 9 forwards over 200lbs in 2010 when they won the cup and 9 in 2013 when they won the cup. In 2010, they also had Byfuglien who played defense but also some forward. He is 265 lbs. Gaborik is over 200 lbs. The Flyers have only 4 forwards over 200 lbs. Didn't the Bruins have the most fights or second most fights last year? They are consistently one of the best teams in the league. And, Detroit had 7 fights last year and since they have adopted this no arms policy, they've won nothing. |

It was only one incident and it was really a minor thing. 15 years ago and I don't even think it would have been reported. It would have come out in a tell all book. - PhillySportsGuy
Good point. But it was reported and I can't help seeing him as a bit of a douche bag. |

Odd, Detroit was 30th in the NHL in fighting majors when they won the Stanley Cup in 2008
The Bruins were second in fights, and were eliminated in the second round. The conference finals featured teams that were 27th, 25th, 21st and 5th in fighting majors last year. The teams that were 2st and 25th went to the Final.
When LA won the Stanley Cup in 2012, they were 18th in the NHL in fighting majors. In fact Boston is the only team in the past 6 years to finish in the top 15 in fighting majors to win the Stanley Cup. |

I think the point is that this poop doesn't matter. You can win as a team that fights a lot or as a team that doesn't. |

Yes, they are bigger than the Flyers are now. No question.
The average size difference between the Flyers and Kings last season was .5 inches and 8 lbs. Between them and the Hawks, the Flyers were l1 inch taller and 2 lbs lighter.
So while I will agree that the Flyers could stand to be bigger, continuously bringing up Rosehill is nonsense. He's a 29 year old who has never been able to average more than 5-7 minutes a night because he's not a good hockey player.
Comparing him to Clifford and Nolan as players is laughable, because they are good players, who made the NHL by playing hockey. Rosehill would be an ECHLer if there was no fighting in hockey. He's limited in his skill, he's below average as a defensive player and he's simply not good enough to be anything more than a fighter.
If you want to make the argument that the Flyers could stand to be bigger, I'd agree. But bringing up fighting and calling for them to waste a spot on a goon is ridiculous. |

He doesn't come off that way to me. I guess I'm his age, so I can relate a little more. I've seen much worse from people and most cops just laugh it off or let it go. He obviously just got the wrong cop on the wrong day. |

Yeah. It sure would be nice to have a bunch of forwards like the Kings who are big, can skate, handle the puck and play two-way. I feel thats stating the obvious though. |

Hell, even Detroit, when it was winning in the late 1990's and early 2000's had a line of guys who could play and fight. They had Aaron Downey in a limited role, but guys like McCarty played good all around hockey. |
