Yeah 8 of the guys from last nights line up were either sent down or waived today.

Could be that maybe they knew it was their last chance to show and played their guts out. But it was underwhelming as you said by the Nucks.

- Iggysbff

Well Jensen and Sbisa probably made the Oilers starting squad with their play and point production.

Of course not because in your mind new coach + new system = bottom 5 team
- A_SteamingLombardi

Actually my formula for a bottom 5 team would be putting a guy who scored 5 goals on your second line and bumping up a third liner like Higgins to play second line , as the new coach did, an equation for bottom 5.

After the first period you could see the guys just going through the motions, we badly outplayed them in the first…specially the twins. Who look to be back to themselves with the passes in tight spaces and the dipsy-doddle dangles.

Team still looks to have one first line and three third lines though

The silver lining is that if one of those third lines becomes a second line then having two becomes a bonus

That is a big assumption considering we haven't played a full NHL roster or a playoff team yet. 4 of the games are against Calgary and Edmonton and PHX . The other was a split squad game

1/3 of that team was put on waivers today.

I didn't realize the season had started. I'll agree with you about Burrows on Wed. night when he breaks his foot or jaw, because that is obviously going to happen.

If…and that's somewhat of a big it…Bonino can become a 20 goal 50 point second line center, I'd be pretty happy!! Remains to be seen if he can do that though, really smart player, he does a lot of good things out there, nothing flashy, just good.

Kassian needs to take that next step and get up to the 20 goal mark if he's to be considered a second line player, although he hasn't shown it, he's been a good offensive player through-out his junior days so I'm hopeful there.

Where there's a glaring hole is the second line LW position.

It is like pulling teeth around here to get fans to admit that this roster is thin.

Burrows got 0 goals against bottom end teams and depleted lineups , Daniel got one and now we formulate this into 20 and 30 goal seasons against real NHL teams.

I don't see any assumptions in my post?

Sedins look good, I have no doubt they'll be 60 to 80 point players again, nothing indicates they won't be other than last year. Henrik can dish that puck like few others, he'll be fine, Daniel needs to return to a 20+ goal scorer and a 60+ point winger, he looks good to me.

If things stay as they are, the Canucks are gonna need a collective effort that's for sure!

It's not thin, it just lacks high-end talent on the second line. Unless that's thin to you? Look around the league, there's a lot of teams in the same boat or their defence isn't as good as ours…with the exception of Sbisa

They did look very good last night, but look who they played against. The won't see that roster again until next preseason.

No complaints against our D or goaltending. Scoring will be the issue again.

Vantel they've been doing that against the very best in the league for a lot of years, they didn't just get shiddy all of a sudden.

I wouldn't call it thin, just very bottom-heavy

When you don't have a second line I look at it as thin. Even our third line has a lot of questions.

TSN had them ranked to 10 two years ago and around 25 last year. This year out of the top 50. It has been a gradual decline not really a drop off the planet plunge

- VANTEL

The online questions our third line has is who should we put there? Higgins, Hansen, Matthias, Burrows, Kassian, Vey, Richardson can all play on the third line. Our bottom six will very likely be better than it's been in recent years. First line is three top six forwards, two of which are coming off bad years and so may or may not live up to expectations. Second line is full of questions, but after that it is solid. Out of the players I mentioned above as potential 3rd liners, (and I purposely excluded Jensen and Horvat because that's pushing it a bit) at least three of them will play well enough to make up an average to excellent 3rd line. And if any of them underperform then they will find themselves on the 4th line.
