Bryzgalov released from tryout in Minnesota, Jets put Budaj on waivers.
What a tire fire Cheveldayoff is. - Jsaquella
not unexpected. i really wish bryz could find another nhl home for a few years.
but chevy at least made an actual player trade, so he's got that going for him...which is nice. |

Poor Bryz. I thought he'd stick around given all the stuff the Wild were doing with him (like #BryzSelfie on Twitter). I guess with Kuemper and Backstrom, he could only play in the AHL. - NickTheKid87
Very likely. Harding will be back before too long as well, not really a spot for him unless somebody else gets hurt. |

Supposedly Kuemper is the starter until Harding comes back... kind of surprising. |

He traded a mediocre NHLer for a mediocre NHL back up with a higher salary and a guy who Habs fans call a mediocre AHLer. Then he waives the mediocre back up.
Budaj's cap hit can't be fully buried, either. He should have just kept Tangradi and claimed Leighton off waivers from Chicago...unless he needs the $500K to stay above the salary floor |

Man the market for backup tenders is saturated. Who's still out there? Bryz, budaj, Brodeur..and I think I am omitting some. |

Perhaps the injuries have taken their toll on Backstrom. Guy was a very good goalie, but he's had so many trips to the IR list he's got his own table in the trainer's room |

Especially since MN was only willing to give Kuemper a two-way contract at first. Shady business, that. |

Well, Budaj is signed, but might be headed to the AHL.
Big name free agents are: Bryz, Brodeur, Tim Thomas, Thomas Vokoun and Nikolai Khabibulin.

Exactly. Also he's an older goalie by this point. He was a late-bloomer even in Europe before coming over here. |

This will be his third full season. Why? Because who else was better to do it? I think the ORGANIZATION sees the offensive upside, mainly because of how he scored in juniors and that he has shown flashes of that upside so far. But anyone who understands hockey knows that defensive responsibility is a much more rare commodity in a young player, especially one who is 19, 20, 21 years old. And the coaches felt, Rightly in my opinion, that putting the kid in a role they knew he could do would help him down the road.
Do I agree it is time for him to start finding his offensive game? ABSOLFRANKINLUTELY. But saying he has no offensive upside because of what he has done so far is ridiculous.
In three years Couturier will be a 6 year veteran. And that is a different conversation. We are talking about Couturier now. I think he still has some room to grow as a player offensively. You state quite clearly that you think he doesn't. - MBFlyerfan
saying he has this offensive upside is just as ridiculous then. it is an opinion. doesnt make it a fact. how many players socre din juniors then it didnt translate to the pros?
yes talking about him now and lets see if all that offensive potential you talk about comes to fruition. |

I believe there's a bit more headroom to his game, but I sort of agree that I haven't seen anything to suggest that he's going to go beyond perennial ~50 points, which is very respectable. Like a Jordan Staal. |

Are you expecting Giroux like levels of offense? Because I think anyone that is woudl be expecting far too much.
I think that Couturier can be a 50-60 point guy, which is adequate for a second line center in today's NHL |

I can tell you right now that (the two) Devils fans are dancing in the streets over Harrold going down and Severson staying up. |

Severson had a fantastic camp, deserved to stay. Harrold and Olesky are interesting, I think both can be solid third pair guys in the right situation |

If they're dancing in the streets by the arena, there will soon be zero living devils fans. |

Moorestown's own TJ Brennan looks to have cleared waivers and will be sent to the AHL.
From 22 minutes a night to AHLer in one fell swoop |

nothing i posted would even suggest i expect him to be even close to giroux. so no i dont expect that at all.
i dont think he ever sniffs anywhere close to 60 points. dont even think he gets 50 this year.
does he make any of his linemates better offensively? does he have the potential to make them better offensively? |

Merrill, Gelinas, Severson, Larsson... Devs went from a bunch of old/overpaid pilons to a pretty exciting group of kids in a short time. Gives me hope for the Flyers' blueline. |
