(devil's advocate)...how does that equate to competition for roster spots - Michael Pachla
As I asked a couple of days ago, who's to say the "competition" was Grigorenko versus Reinhart in the first place? And who's to say that the Sabres aren't more impressed with Reinhart at this point? When it comes to two young guys, neither of whom potted a ton of points, it comes down to those proverbial "little things" that we don't really know about unless we're involved in coaches' discussions. |

I think when Grigo does get the call to come back to the Sabres. He will make it so they won't want to send him back ever again. But still depends on how he does in Roch. |

I think it also expires during RFA year, gives CBJ some control. |

I think what makes this a little more "troubling" than it should is the fact that Grigorenko was in a competition with two player: the first being the Grigorenko of old, and then the second being Sam Reinhart. He absolutely blew past the former, which made him look really impressive, but the bar was only six inches off the ground. |

But outside of 1 goal Reinhart hasn't produced a single point including Traverse City.
Grigorenko has at least produced frequently on the scoresheet.
While Reinhart skates better than Grigorenko did 2 years ago, he still looks out of place and gets knocked off the puck way too easily. |

I don't necessarily disagree. What we don't know is if the coaches do. |

I had both grigo and reinhart headed back...opportunity knocked when kaleta and Larsson were injured...
here's a scenario...should reinhart still be nothing more than a player who "looks like he belongs" when Larsson's cleared to play, do they send Larsson down to Rochester and keep reinhart? |

Here's my opinion on the whole "Grigorenko should be mad that Reinhart is probably going to get his 9 game look."
How can he really begrudge a guy that's getting the same opportunity he was given a few years ago? He got his chance, why shouldnt' Reinhart get his? He wouldn't be in the predicament where he's being sent back had he come into that season with the same work ethic and tenacity that he did this year. So, it would be awfully unfair of him to blame Reinhart for him getting sent down to Rochester this year. |

We have a pretty good clue, dont we? Reinhart is still in Buffalo, Grigo is in Rochester.
Of course the competition was between Reinhart and Grigo - and all the other candidates for the 4 roster spots for center.
Describe one category of the evaluation in which it can be fairly said that Reinhart outplayed Grigo. |

I don't necessarily think it was a "blame reinhart" thing, goosie...most felt that maybe grigo earned a spot over reinhart by having a better training camp |

But did he have a better training camp? And in all reality, shouldn't he have a better training camp? This isn't his first time at the rodeo. But it is the first one for Reinhart.

And that's my point. I really didn't see that much difference between the two, not enough to get upset at this anyway.
Grigorenko's past changes the perception a bit. If you looked at these two guys without knowing a thing about them in the past, I'm not sure the answer is as "clear-cut" in fans' eyes. In fact, I think, knowing the jaded nature of fans (myself included), we'd say neither of them are good enough to be here. Everybody wants to reward Grigorenko for "working hard", not for being head-and-shoulders better than someone else. |

So let me get this straight. Grigorenko works his tail off all summer, is impressive in camp and fully deserving of a spot but it's not good enough and gets sent to Rochester. On the other hand, Reinhart does next to nothing, should be sent back to Jr. but has earned a 9 game tryout? Totally ass backwards imo. I can only imagine what Grigo is thinking and what he needs to do at this point. I'm sure his confidence will take a hit after this move. |

I can see your point, but i think grigorenko's a lot mentally tougher than we believe, guess we'll see.

From the games i've seen from the development camp through today Reinharts improved with each game. He does look like a stick man out there (needs some bigger shin pads or something lol *jokes*). But seriously he hasn't made many mistakes.
IMO do i think his play has earned the number 2 center? Probably not
But i do think the progress he has made has at least earned him the consideration for a serious chance.
For Grigo: There's positives for both him staying and being sent down. I guess the chance for him to play top line minutes will help me get over the merks trip.

He needs to go to Rochester and prove he can keep this level of play consistent over the course of at least a month or so. The only person he should be mad at is himself for not coming in with the right attitude 2 years ago. |

just trying to figure out how this equates to "competition for a roster spot" and how those few spots must be "earned" |

I just think it was the wrong move. In my view, he earned his spot on the roster.
