My worry with Vinny isn't scoring goals, it's 5 on 5 play - Jsaquella
That's my worry too, but i am just hoping by possibly increasing his offensive output it may lead to a confidence boost which will improve his overall game.
Just a hope! |

I still think he'll need to outscore his deficiencies. |

Only one more day. Boy it has been a long off season.
Things I'm looking forward to seeing:
1. Hoping for a fast start for Giroux (and to some extent Voracek).
The team will be fine if they get G at his PPG level from the start, if they both start slow it will be trouble
2. Coburn and AMAC as the top pair
I expect them to struggle at first getting used to each other. Actually the entire year may be somewhat difficult as Coburn excelled with Kimmo, and AMAC while an upgrade to their overall D, will be hard put to excel if forced to play 21-22+ min/game
These two will get the tough match ups and how well they do will have a big impact on the overall team.
3. Del Zotto
Looking forward to see what he's got and think with him on the left and L Schenn on the right, this has potential for a decent pairing.
4. PEB
He seems fast and intelligent, think they picked up a winner here.
5. VLC
If he can skate after the back injury. If that line with Raffl and Umby can hold it's own on 5 v 5, I would be happy.
6. Expect B Schenn to do very well on G's wing
7. Simmonds with Couts/Read
I love Wayne, after G my favorite current player, but his strength is not as a defensive forward. We know Couts will get the tough match ups, how will Simmer fare in this regard as a shut down guy?
8. Streit
If he stays healthy he will put up some major points this year.
9. Mase
Can he maintain the excellent play for a whole year? I think he can.
In a division where its the Pens and then everyone else, they should be in the fight for a play off spot as long as G can play ~90% of the games. Realistically the NYRs and even the CBJs I see as being ahead of the Flyers right now. The Isles on paper are much improved. They will need the whole team to buy into the team D concept and for their top guys to stay healthy to realistically have a shot at the playoffs.

Per the beats, Lecavalier will be on the 1st PP unit in Hartsy's old spot - Jsaquella
I read that somewhere as well. Vinny does have a wicked one timer. Could work out really well, and Vinny should be happier if he's used in this capacity. |

The first PP should be very good for the Flyers.
Hopefully the second unit can improve, and the 5 vs 3 unit too. |

I've been gone and while I did read Meltzer's blog every day did not keep up with all the replies. Was PEB dissed already as not being a legit player? |

That's part of the reason the team may be better than some think. D corps is a worry, but solid PP, solid tending and perhaps less time spent in the box could mean a playoff berth. |

I believe that Umberger is at best a slight upgrade on Hartnell 5v5, he's not some crazy speedster Selke candidate that some people make him out to be. If he doesn't come close to matching Hartnell's production (or to have a net positive in production based on other players getting chances), then the trade-off may not be worth it, at least in the short-term. Looking at it strictly from an offensive point of view, it's a bad trade. Whether or not the other differences in their games offsets that is yet to be seen. - jmatchett383
There are unknowns involved here. One is how well Hartnell would've produced offensivrly this upcoming year, if he had remained a Flyer. I do agree that Hartnell is the better offensive player on paper. And also how well Umberger rebounds from an off year last season. So I think we just have to wait and see. |

OMG: Hartnell trade talk!
I don't care why the trade was made or how it plays out over time honestly. It all comes down to not getting value for Hartnell at the time of the trade. Plain and simple the only people I have seen even play with the idea that it was a fair return are Flyers fans. The media smirks and makes comments about it: one example- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrQkzuScxuM
Fans of other clubs are brutally attacking about it (as expected). But if you are not a Flyers fan it is painfully obviously that the trade was ugly. I guess we will wait for December to truly make the first evaluation and then again in 3 years when RJs contract is up. I'm hoping I am wrong but it doesn't really matter, what maters is that value was not realized at the time of the trade. I have to be honest, I am holding it against Hexy. - coffee junkie
i wanted hartnell gone, and i've said from the beginning i'm fine with the return. more versatile, much more disciplined, better skater, better defensively, fewer years. other guys can step up and replace hartnell's production. |

I'm over it, I said my peace. I disagree with the vocal HBers. I'm personally rooting for both of them this year. |
