Lol, yeah..Its not realistic about Doughty, but if the D were to be upgraded so as to have a real #1 stud even at the expense of some forward depth, I say they'd be fine..Unfortunately, the holes we have are the hardest ones to fill in today's nhl. - Hextall271
Getting a legit 1C is tough. Just ask NJ and Toronto. |

Hopefully Schenn and Couturier can help out there, or even Umberger. He's got a big body at least - Jsaquella
Quite a few of the goals Umberger scored last year were right on the door step. I think he could contribute on the 2nd PP unit in a Simmonds-like role |

Anyone know what the official word on Gagne is? I haven't seen that he actually signed yet.

Nothing as of yet.

“My impressions are that he’s getting better. I think he’s skating better and he’s starting to get his hands back. He’s been away from the game – he’s skated for most of the year, but he’s been away from the game for the whole year,” said Chiarelli. “I spoke with him (Saturday) morning, and I made a proposal to him in the sense of, ‘Look Simon, I see you getting better, I want you to stick around and practice with the team.’
It sounds like he may be signed a few days after the season starts. |

Nothing confirmed, but it sounds like he's going to just keep practicing with them and hopefully have it turn into a contract as the season goes along. |

Let's see if I understand the LTIR correctly: The Bruins, per capgeek, are currently $867,476 over the cap (including Savard). Is it unlikely that that Hamilton will be "sent down" to get compliant? Afterwords, Savard could be put on LTIR, they could bring Hamilton back up, and be free to sign Gagne with the remaining LTIR allowance.
Bring it, cap geeks. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that would mean Hamilton would be ineligible for game one; that's if he is waiver eligible. |

I'd like to know if they'd do that again. Since they matched, it's been two non playoff years so I can't expect they're rolling in dough. - Hextall271
They've never been rolling in dough. If Nashville doesn't match that offer, they are ever closer to being the laughing stock of the NHL. Basically tells other teams "Feel free to push us around because our market sucks and we can't afford to keep our players."
Barry Trotz has done a pretty good job of coaching that team despite the personnel he has had to work with over the years.
The only major point producing forward they've ever had in their existence is Paul Kariya. An old Paul Kariya. Unless we're also including Cliff Ronning, Steve Sullivan, and JP Dumont. |

Jason Arnott holds the team record for goals in a season with 33. The Flyers have had 12 players score more goals during Nashville's existence. They've really been starved for basically any sustained offense. |

If they are over the cap at 5pm, they only get LTIR relief for Savard in the amount they are over. If they are under and then put Savard on LTIR tomorrow, they get the full amount if relief. That's why Pronger is on LTIR now, and Timonen won't be until tomorrow |

Honestly, there's a lot to be pessimistic about. The Flyers have some talent, and could be a playoff team. But they will need a lot of things to go right for that to happen.
Also, saying that they might not be a playoff team this year isn't really a bad thing, because they have a long term plan in place and seem dedicated to it, rather than jumping into quick fixes and short term solutions.
If missing the playoffs doesn't result in a slew of short term, short sighted decisions, it's not the end of the world. As it is, I wouldn't be surprised if they finished 2nd in the Metro. Also wouldn't be amazed if they finished 7th. It's wide open. The same goes for both NY teams, the Caps, Jackets and Devils, too.
i think Pittsburgh will be 1st and Carolina last. Outside of them, pick 'em. - Jsaquella
Ek picked them 2nd. I don't see it.

I don't think he is allowed technically to practice with the team if he's not signed. Unless there is something in the CBA I'm not aware of.

Looking at it, it seems the easiest way is demote Hamilton to get compliant. Then on opening day, place Savard on LTIR, recall Hamilton. And sign Gagne is they choose to. Exactly as you said.

Is there a termination period on a PTO? And can teams have unsigned (non-amateur) prospects skate with them at practice? |

To my knowledge, once camp breaks and a roster is submitted, only those players on the roster can practice with the team. Unless there is some technicality that I'm unaware of.

I'm a little surprised I didn't miss something. LTIR is one of the trickier parts of an already tricky cap. |
