To this point, Streit was an excellent signing. It remains to be seen how the other player work out long term. Lecavalier struggled last year and was injured. Have to see if he bounces back. MacDonald has upgraded the Flyers defense. Umberger has yet to play a single regular season game yet.

One of my concerns with this team is Andrew MacDonald in all honesty. He was a clear cut upgrade over Andrej Meszaros or Erik Gustafsson, however he's not an ideal replacement over Kimmo Timonen. Heck, I'd happily trade Andrew MacDonald fo Matt Carle right now. MacDonald was an upgrade to this team prior to Timonen going down. He was a pleasant surprised next to Luke Schenn at a limited role but now as a top pair guy, this scares me a little.

Understandable. He's not a top pair defenseman. But neither is Matt Carle realistically. And MacDonald and Carle are pretty similar, as players. I'd just give an edge to Carle as a playmaker. But I don't see offense as this team's issue. And MacDonald didn't exactly play a limited role last year. He played around 22 minutes a game in both the regular season and the playoffs.
Every defenseman on this team is going to have to take a bigger chunk, and more responsibility without Timonen. Hopefully the team's 5 on 5 play and support from the forwards is more consistent. That will go a long way.

Coburn is a player who will be expected to play against the other team's best. The idea of Streit being anywhere near Crosby, Thornton or Stamkos makes me pee myself.

Streit/G-NN was a very good pair for the 2nd half of last season.

AMAC/Fat Schenn was OK too.

No replacement for Kimmo on this yrs squad.
