Then thats more things the NHL has gotten wrong IMO.
Zadorov was here for 31 days last year.
Didn't something similar happen to Grigorenko where they deemed team games played as counting against him thus screwing Buffalo. Same thing happened to Matteau in NJ that season. - dadeadhead
Grigorenko played in the team's first 12 games in the 12/13 season, so automatically kicked in there. |

That was for the Traverse City tournament that he couldn't play in.
Grigorenko did burn a year as he played more than 9 games last year. In the short season he played 25 games and last year he played 18.
Matteau played in 17 NHL games in 2012-2013. - Stripes77
He played most of those games after the NHL deemed he was over the team games.
In that year it was 6 games because of the lockout.

Right but it was after the NHL already said there was a no-no. |

Total value of the contract is 3yrs 9.675 mil.
His Salary is 3yrs at 2.775 with 92,500 being a signing bonus for slide rule purposes.
If he is on the roster the entire year (injured) he will make $925k thus taking the total salary of his deal to 1.850.
He loses a year on the contract then. It doesn't slide. - dadeadhead
He would have to be on IR for the entire year though. Which he won't be. He is only out a month. At that time they either decided to keep him or send him back. |

Correct. Darcy tried to send him down but the NHL told them they screwed the pooch already counting the games that were applicable to him. |

? How can that happen if it was the first 12 games of the year? I can see if he sat out and they weren't sure if scratched games counted, but he literally played in all of the team's first 12 games - no scratches, no IR, etc.
Edit: I see you pointed out 6 games to someone else. So either way, he went over the limit the NHL set by playing in those games, not being on IR/inactive |

There's my error.
I was under the impression it was major shoulder surgery(the 4-6 month kind).
At least it gave us some banter for this morning. |

He was here for practice or something stupid like that, Darcy tried to send him down after and the NHL said NO! (and then slapped Darcy in the mouth) |

I remember it being a huge "egg on face" moment for Darcy. He notified the NHL that he was sending Grigo to Jrs. and they advised he could do it but it wouldn't save his ELC.
The other big bungle was when they tried to re-assign him to Rochester for "rehab" or something like that and the League vetoed that, also. That was last spring, I thought. |

It might have been after game 7 as they thought he could play in 7.
The whole thing is stupid and goes back to each team should get exemptions for players they draft(and pay).
I know the small towns in Canada need the Jrs but if every team gets 2 exemptions per yr it won't effect it that much. I mean lets be honest. Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, and the like learn nada going back for one or two more years of Jrs. They're to good for Jrs and would be better served going to the "A". |

Where did you see he'd only be out a month? The article I read said that if he has the surgery, he'll be out a significant amount of time. I wouldn't really consider a month to be significant. - HonkFortheGoose

The funny part was the fact that 75% of HockeyBuzz knew he couldn't go down but Darcy decided to try anyways |

From what I saw on twitter it would be a minor procedure. A month or two at the most. Articles that I have read this morning don't have a time table. Some suggest he would miss the World Juniors other say the Flames said its just a bump along the road of his development.

He did it for 17 years and on 3 owners.
Can't imagine why he wouldn't have thought it would work on the NHL. |

Saw a cute little quote on facebook today . My favorite radio station is 97.3 boom FM out of Toronto.
They posted this to day .
There is good news and bad news . The good news is the NHL season starts today . The bad news is the Leafs have been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
