So, cause I'm bored, my top 10 Flyers predictions for the 14-15 season.
1. Sean Couturier has a major breakout year finishing with a line of 80gp 22g 37a 59pts a 50%+ on faceoffs and he gets his first Selke trophy nomination.
2. B. Schenn flourishes on the top line and, even though he doesn't get time on the 1st pp unit, he finishes with 25+ goals and 55+ points.
3. Mark Streit puts up huge numbers on the PP and finishes with 50+ points.
4. Playing on the top pp unit gets VLC going and the big guy scores 28 goals, 15 on the pp.
5. MDZ is traded at the deadline and replaced in the lineup by Ghost.
6. Laughton comes up around the all star break and replaces Akeson in the lineup. Bellemare moves to wing. Akeson then replaces Rinaldo in the lineup during the playoffs.
7. The Flyers D is meh, but the forwards, goaltending and special teams are good enough to get them into the playoffs.
8. Raffl doesn't increase his offense much, but he becomes a huge part of the pk.
9. Luke Schenn has a very good year and going into the playoffs, the D combos at even strength are:
Coburn-Schenn
AMac-Streit
Grossman-Ghost
10. And the line combos going into the playoffs, based on ice time, are:
Schenn-G-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Umberger-Laughton-Raffl
Bellemare-VLC-Akeson
Now drop the damn puck already!! - BiggE
I'm gonna say maybe 30% of these come true. Although, #7 isn't really a prediction, more an analysis. |

We definitely need Giroux to be Giroux and we dodged a bullet by getting Simmonds back.
I'm gonna say Giroux, Simmonds and Streit all have big games. Brayden Schenn is gonna surprise us all, so I'm adding him to the list for the next couple games. I think Schenn will prove to be a gem. - SuperSchennBros
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Schenn turned out to be a very good player. There's a reason that nobody wants to trade him for anything less than A top defenseman |

The Flyers have a new GM and a new philosophy of patience, but people can't move on from a rap has-been and a dancing bear that harkens back to the days of Bryz.
It's like PLind has rubbed off on them, slingin' yesterday's hash.
(For the record, I don't give a good goddamn what celebratory gifs people post, just as long as we're celebrating victories)

So, not to take the conversation away from...well, whatever it is that's being talked about, but:
Peter Mueller is being placed on unconditional waivers today. If he clears, and refuses assignment to the AHL, his contract will be terminated.
My question is, is this something the Flyers could look into? Say you do the same thing with, for the sake of argument, Chris Pronger in the final 2 years of his contract. Ask him to waive his NMC, and waive him. It's unlikely that a team will take on his $4.9M+ cap hit, even though he's only making $575K/season. If another team takes him, fantastic. If not, have him "refuse" to go to the AHL, and terminate the contract. Then, sign him as an advisor at $575K (or more) a year. Thoughts? |

re Pronger:
My guess is that they trade him after this season to a team struggling to reach the cap floor. Pronger then retires and his new club gets a 4.925 million cap hit for 2 seasons without spending a dime. The Flyers then hire him as VP of Hockey Operations and pay him 575k per year.
Now, I don't know if that is legal per the CBA, but if it is, I think it happens.
