So, not to take the conversation away from...well, whatever it is that's being talked about, but:
Peter Mueller is being placed on unconditional waivers today. If he clears, and refuses assignment to the AHL, his contract will be terminated.
My question is, is this something the Flyers could look into? Say you do the same thing with, for the sake of argument, Chris Pronger in the final 2 years of his contract. Ask him to waive his NMC, and waive him. It's unlikely that a team will take on his $4.9M+ cap hit, even though he's only making $575K/season. If another team takes him, fantastic. If not, have him "refuse" to go to the AHL, and terminate the contract. Then, sign him as an advisor at $575K (or more) a year. Thoughts? - jmatchett383
I don't think you can trade or waive an "injured" player, which Pronger is presently. In order for a transaction to take place, Pronger would have to be medically cleared. That's why I think none of your options have happened yet.

I'm gonna say maybe 30% of these come true. Although, #7 isn't really a prediction, more an analysis. - jmatchett383
#5 to me is the most interesting. I could see that. |

re Pronger:
My guess is that they trade him after this season to a team struggling to reach the cap floor. Pronger then retires and his new club gets a 4.925 million cap hit for 2 seasons without spending a dime. The Flyers then hire him as VP of Hockey Operations and pay him 575k per year.
Now, I don't know if that is legal per the CBA, but if it is, I think it happens. - BiggE
A player doesn't have to pass a physical to be traded, as long as they trade does not specifically require one (remember the whole Oilers/Kings fiasco). So yes, he can be traded to anyone at any time, and there would just be a "coincidental" arrangement as you stated taking place. |

Finally the season is here. Hopefully the off season emphasis on conditioning pays off hugely. Flyers have as tough a schedule as there is coming out of the gate and if they are in better shape than their opponents, it could be a very positive factor.
Getting off to a good start will help build confidence and hopefully get them rolling towards the winter months. - Jsaquella
the NHL didn't do the Flyers any favors with the schedule |

He can be traded (assuming the other team does not demand he pass a physical) but not waived, you're right.

Well then, I think my scenario happens. If the cap goes above 74 million next year, as many think it will, the cap floor will be north of 56 million and a few teams aren't going to want to spend that kind of cash. So getting a 4.925 hit for nothing will be very attractive to a few clubs.

They never do. I haven't looked, but do they have another week off in March followed immediately by 5 games in 7 days? Seems like that one's a constant, too.

I think MDZ will play ok, I just think that by Feb it will be apparent that Ghost needs to be brought up and MDZ is the logical guy to go.

Ahh, I thought it included trades as well.
Maybe teams just simply don't want to help the Flyers then. Imagine that! |

Well, as of right now, I doubt any team wants to pay $4M cash for nothing. That all changes next season. |

honestly, even if they can turn MDZ into a 5th round pick in a trade its a win for the Flyers. You signed the guy on a whim.. If you can replace him and get a pick without givng anything else up.. total win. |

You can't waive him, but a handshake agreement could be made where he retires and then is hired at his current/higher salary in an off-ice role. |

The league isn't going to let the Flyers do anything but put him on LTIR. They make up the rules as they go and if they can keep the Flyers shuffling over that contract they will. |

I don't think MDZ goes anywhere this season. I'm willing to bet Grossmann goes down with a injury leading to Ghost's insertion in the lineup. Ghost plays well enough to take over the spot.
Honestly, what's so terrible about having puck moving defensemen? |

Replacing Grossmann with Ghost as a drop-in worries me. Grossmann has his deficiencies, but they're completely different types of players. |

So you think they score 264 goals while giving up around 220-225? That's pretty optimistic. I think 245-250GF and 230-235GA is more likely. |
