Im not sure that is the case, especially if you are engineering it from Day 1.

If you are talking trains/subways - it doesnt need to be directly under the stadium, but adjacent or close enough to allow access to other areas when that line isnt being used for games - there just needs to be somewhere else of interest to go to in a perfect world.

Building rapid transit tracks isnt as expensive as some might think.

But it's not a rapid transit that would be going in there, it would be the 190 that would be going underneath the stadium. An expressway. Much different.

the system can only push so many cars at once - but the cost to upgrade it would be nominal in the grand scheme of things. And the NFTA has cash on hand.

NFTA is an electric system, and the curves arent so tight so I am pretty sure it is scalable.

We had this debate with BART in SF - the system is electric, but it's also specific to the amount of juice it can handle. More cars require more juice require better cables and transformers to handle it, etc.

Not saying that other people won't make the trip but, even if the experience changed, I doubt I'm going to a Bills game any time soon. Life is just too busy to try to make the weekend trips up to Buffalo. Maybe when the kids are all grown and life slows down again.

I never really had a problem with drunks at Sabres games. At least not on the same grand scale. Sure every once a while you get that idiot next to you but it always seemed more isolated. At the Bills games, you are surrounded.

That was my experience any way. I had season tickets to both for many years but I always enjoyed the Sabres games more.

Only time I see drunks are at the leafs games and usually it's leafs fans, or play off games. Last play off game I went to was against Philly and I had a beer poured on me. My brother had the same baptism by beer last year from a leafs fan.

I'm not saying it's the same. Just saying that however many years ago people probably thought that putting an NHL sized arena on top of the metro station was crazy.

And as was just point out, the NYC subway system runs under the streets and the huge skyscrapers there, so nothing is really outside the realm of possibility. I just think it won't happen because doing that would drastically increase the cost of building the stadium.

The street layout down there is ridiculous - all the 1-way streets. Largely it's that way because the highway and skyway cut everything off... that would need to be addressed to move 90k people around there effectively.

Definitely - not so much how much juice is available, it's how much can the system carry at once.

the structural engineering of the foundations to account for the structure underneath and the structural supports for the roof of the roadway to support the building.. a lot of additional design work and also construction costs

Well? People wanted to transform downtown from its ghost town state. What better way to do it. Cant have growth without people .

Here's the thing, the underground subway system was already established in NYC prior to there being a stadium, I'm sure boston was the same way. We don't have that and quite honestly I'm not sure we do need it.

There is one already... but if it was to be a viable option for large numbers of people to use (not just hippies like me) then it would require some upgrading.

NFTA is currently exploring extending the system out to UB Amherst, so there is money available.

Depending on the weather tomorrow, I may be on the Metro rail. We park in the Augsperger ramp since my friend has a parking permit with 24/7 access since he works downtown. So we park there and either walk if the weather is nice or take the rail down.

I would rather pay to take the train to the stadium than pay to park and deal with that mess, even if it is organized and goes well. I go to plenty of events a year, concerts, college football games, etc. and the worst thing about the event is getting in and out of parking.
