They still get good kids because the educational aspect is solid and Bill O'Brien did great work in updating a ton of stuff to make more compatible with the pro game (especially, with the weight room). They lack depth because of the scholarship thing. But that's over now. They are gonna get good talent and get it quickly. Franklin can recruit, but can he coach? That's the question.
People that bury Penn State make me laugh. They have no idea how much the alums love that place (Hi Terry Pegula!) and don't want to see it fail because we believe in it and know what people say about it is stupid and wrong. - johndewar
Yeah. There is a lot of loyalty to PSU from just about everyone who went there. I agree about Franklin. He was able to get recruits to Vanderbilt in the SEC (although he left them pretty barren when he left).
The Big10 is pretty weak right now. I would rank them behind the SEC, BIG 12 and PAC 12. ACC is top heavy with FSU then falls off a cliff. If Hackenberg hangs around for 2 more seasons, I can see PSU being in contention for the BIG10 title in 2 years. |

Oh, no doubt.
Remember Dan Kendra? HAD TO HAVE HIM. How'd that work out?
Terrelle Pryor? He wasn't much better than Mike Robinson or even Daryl Clark. Mike Robinson was a blue chipper, though, I'll grant that. But Clark? I don't think so.
Michael Robinson was such a great kid and we'll always have this (right around the 30 second mark, wow): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrmHQRympyA

That is what McKenzie tweeted, yes. However, Panaccio's article muddies the water a bit. I think Panaccio is wrong.
My lone concern is the impact on the Flyers cap situation. - Jsaquella

He can't unless it is deemed an emergency. Even then, He only gets a few games I believe. |

I don't worry about the forwards as much as I do the defense -- the only defense I've seen comparable to this one in overall weakness -- not individual weakness, because every player has flaws, but overall with regard to how they are going to match up with other teams over the course of 60 minutes-- was Edmonton's last year
Over 60 minutes, without Coburn, it's hard for me to see how the overall ability is there to play a system that gets them into the playoffs. It was gonna be hard with Coburn, and I'm trying to stay optimistic and see how it can be done, but for the life of me, I just don't see how it holds up over 60 minutes without Coburn - AllInForFlyers
Coburn is a pretty big loss but not one of our defensemen has a two way balanced game. Not one! |

I believe so, but until I hear the NHL flat out say it tomorrow, I'm not going to be comfortable with it. |

The Big 10 is very hard to watch and I love football.
I can't wait until the big scandal that exposes how southern schools pay their kids. |

Not just for this year either. His retirement would force the Flyers to hold $5M of dead cap space for two more seasons. |

No, he isn't.
But for this team, those 22 minutes a night he played included the toughest matchups with a majority of defensive-zone starts, as well as massive amounts of time on the PK, which has been one of the league's 10 best for years
He's not a superstar, by any means. But the gap between what he does defensively and what anybody else can do on the Flyers is simply mind-blowing

That's the biggest blow. It does sound like his situation, in terms of the Flyers and the use of LTIR, won't change.
Honestly, the rest of it is absolutely of no concern to me. If he wants to work for the NHL, good for him, go. I just don't want to see the Flyers left holding the bag. |

They all pay their kids. It's ridiculous and so blatantly obvious. Gurley just got caught.
Part of it is (frank)ed up too because these kids really need the money. They don't have time to get a job. Do people really expect these kids to never want to go out to eat or take a girl out on a date or go to a party or a bar? Can you imagine college without the ability to get a job or any money? Just staying in every night and eating each meal at certain times because of the meal plan. |

Yeah, he (frank)ed up last night, but they still only gave up two goals, one of them a fluke
24 hours later, they give up 5 with the goalie on the ice, including four absolute no-chancers
There's causation and correlation there, my friend |

Legally, they can't accept anything from them for free. I'm saying it's impossible to be a collegiate athlete without breaking the rules unless you have parents who are willing to give you money. |
