not at all.

I know they turn to the boards to protect the puck, and use the ruling in their favour.

But I hate watching players that put themselves in harms way like that.

I think its henrik that does it the most. You'll see them do it in many a game.

As for hartley being fired. not going to happen, he's done nothing to deserve that. He's motivating a young team to not give up.

They work the boards. Thats their game. But I will say, The way they play the game Im surprised they've been as healthy as the have throughout their careers.

Yup both have been injured a fair bit in the last 2 years. But career wise? they have been solid.

Not sure if this has been discussed but I see that Wideman is a healthy scratch for tonight's game. He's their highest paid d-man at $5.2 per.

As a coach you're sending a loud message if you bench your best d-man and highest paid player.

Calgary is off to a great start.

yup, with you on that.

I just commented that they turn to the boards. Everyone got their panties in a knot thinking I was calling them fragile or something.

Like you said, it can be dangerous if further away. I just don't like seeing elite players getting in potential bad positions by their own choices when they have the skills to do otherwise.

it happens

I thought Jones was injured. Who's the GM again? Did he sign these guys to those contracts?

Col signed him to that contract after scoring 27 then 20 goals. Not saying he deserves or deserved that contract but I believe that was the justification.

whats worse.....that means mcgratton is the only Right hand shot

Jones was a test, he failed. Just like Setogucchi is looking like. He'll be gone this year

Wideman, crappy contract. But at the time he was needed and it was competitive with the market. Sure it was more then garrison at the time....but its not like calgary was a destination team at the time of signing.

I'm guessing wideman will be traded this year (or maybe he just got traded now and thats why he's out )

I agree. What sort of message is that supposed to send? I can see Jones being a scratch (as he's simply not a great player) but what of Wideman? Like you said, it doesn't bode for a good start

how so?

wideman didn't play well. so he got scratched. Lets a player like wotherspoon in, or Diaz (who is a wideman like player).

Just shows pay check doesn't give you a spot.

And I'm guessing its because he was banged up from the burrows hit.

***and he's not the best dman. thats brodie and Gio.

Kesler playing with Cogliano and Silvferberg, did his line mates really improve that much in Anh? I still think Kesler is a very valuable player but I doubt he improves offensively this year.

Do you think Kesler cares who his line mates are? He wouldn't pass the puck if was centring Brett Hull and Phil Espositio.

Gioradno was one of the best defensemn in the league last year. Bodie is a really slid defensemen, kinda like what Tanev is to the Canucks. Not the most physical guys or flashiest offensive players, but both are so steady and reliable in all areas of the ice. Wideman is basically a PP specialist at this point. Still surprised he was scratched though(assuming it's a healthy scratch and not an injury from the Burrows hit...beauty of a hit by the way). That won't help his trade value at all.

There is always going to be a few eyebrows raised when you scratch one of your veteran players (unless as you noted, he is banged up). And I don't believe I ever indicated he was their best d-man. Obviously Giordano takes that title. As far as Brodie, I'm not quite sold yet, thus far he seems to be more one-dimensional; however, I haven't had an opportunity to see him play that much, so perhaps there is more to his game.

So Chris Pronger is now working for the department of Player Safety...
Is that not kinda like making George Bush the head of al Qaeda?

He is also still on LTIR for the Flyers

If I was the other teams I would file a complaint with the NHLPA for conflict of interest. Make him retire.

He can't work for the league while getting paid by the Flyers, he'll have to retire which will screw the Flyers.

He's probably a paid consultant, instead of an actual paid employee, that's how politicians get around conflict of interest rules when it comes to being involved in companies that they may end up having to vote on regulations/zoning/taxation/etc.

"NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman would have no problem with Chris Pronger working in the league's department of player safety even while the former defenceman is still on the Philadelphia Flyers' payroll."

So, cap circumvention went from a cardinal sin to something acknowledged and apparently accepted by the commish in just a couple years
