Haven't caught up to everything but any update on Coburn other than LBI and out for an extended time?
My issue last night was partially the D, primarily the forwards and Mason playing like junk.
I can't say it enough how much I like Simmonds. - opeth_pa
Coburn has been named Chris Pronger's assistant at the Department of Player Safety.
Agreed x 2 to the other comments. |

Not sure I'd say he played like junk. The first goal was Michael Ryder being given a 10 foot radius clear of anything and having all day to pick his pot. The second was a whiff by Vinny deep in the zone and a deflection. The 3rd was a deflection from a few feet out. The 4th was a cross-crease tap-in. The 5th was his, although it was a 2-on-1; he probably didn't trust the defender to stop the pass.
He didn't play a stellar game, but he didn't get a lot of help either. |

I instinctively avoid hockey conversations with most people because of this. Been caught too many times just nodding my head in defeat as somebody rants about how bad (insert player name) is. - BulliesPhan87
Ugh. Just the worst. My wife's family is made up of big Flyer fans, but they don't understand the game at all. Coburn sucks, VL had a good season last year because he scored 20 goals and every player on the other team is better than the guy on the Flyers. |

what? i said my piece on the 5th goal last night, and fine i'll give you that for the sake of not getting aggravated, but the other 4? zero chance. not his fault. none of them. |

With the ludicrous argument going on now that a bum like Nick Shultz is depth, I'm going to argue that Coburn breaking his right foot, theoretically is things breaking right. - PLindbergh31
I think it does show a few things: Just how valuable Coburn is, and just how weak the defense is as an overall unit.
I do like these players, some more than others, as individual players. And if Coburn was around, I had stated for the record that while I thought it would be tough, I still thought they'd make the playoffs.
So I'm not just ripping players to shreds just two games in. It's not like that.
It's just as an overall unit, with Coburn and Timonen out, this unit will be exposed. Every one of them will have to play the kind of minutes they shouldn't be playing. That's not a crime.
I don't expect Jason Akeson to generate offense against Zdeno Chara and Dougie Hamilton every shift he's on the ice. Therefore, it would be ludicrous to think that Michael Del Zotto and Luke Schenn aren't going to have a difficult time with the Jaromir Jagrs and Travis Zajacs and Mike Cammalleris of the world at some point, and that goals could result.
The phrase I always use in this scenario is that the other guys get paid, too. Yes, the Flyers could play better team defense, and I expect them to do so. But at the same time, you can't expect the 12th man on the bench to guard Michael Jordan. You can't expect a practice-squad cornerback to stop Tom Brady.
We have to have realistic expectations for what we're going to see, with Coburn and Timonen out. It's just going to be tough. I'm going to do my best to not rip players during this time, because I know better. At some point, they're being asked to do what they can't, over 60 minutes.
It is what it is; hopefully they manage to play better team defense and get some wins. Not making the playoffs, being in the lottery...that poop doesn't interest me at all. Not a (frank)ing bit. |

I freely admit that I booed MDZ during intros last night. I was right to do so. I hope and pray he scores 50 goals and helps the team win, but I doubt either of those will come true. Yes, it's only been 2 games, but I've already seen enough. |

Game is tied at 4 and Mason gives up a very soft game winning goal. You can say he had no chance one the other 4 but in the end..all that matters..he gave up an atrocious goal for the loss. That is goaltending though, the night before he kept them in it at points so it will balance out but still that goal was junk.
Personally I believe the Forwards take the blame for their defensive effort regardless of what Mason did. |

Agreed. All losses are the same. No way one player could potentially have made that game winnable.
We even lost a few games during 09/10 with Pronger in the lineup. I mean, what's the point of having him if he's not going to single-handedly win every game for us? |
