which one is in the NHL - 2Real
Oh, so we're judging it based on who made the NHL first, not paying any attention to team roster composition. Got it.
By the way, that has nothing to do with BPA at the time of the draft. |
|
|
|
The Eminger trade was bad. That was his worst move.
As for Laughton, what makes you say Matta was BPA? - jmatchett383
I watched the draft.. all of the "experts" had Maatta as BPA. when we drafted Laughton, everyone was like, "who?"

Coots is great but we could have had Dougie Hamilton. - MrBigglesworth
I'd rather have Couturier. People already forget what a big role he had as an 18 year old on the one Flyers team that actually beat the Penguins in the playoffs in the last decade. |

Yes it is totally reasonable to call MacDonald a #3 defenseman at this point. Because that's what he is.
And yes, it is ridiculous to be talking making trades in a panic after two games. - MJL
I agree it's ridiculous to panic so early and start making trades.
Wait until the third game then fire the coach. |

I take solace in knowing that luck is going to regress like a mean mother(frank)er in MDZ's favor now... that is unless Mason keeps inexplicably letting in 4 out of every 5 shots on the net when MDZ is out there (at ES).
- Tomahawk
I agree with you -- they're gonna have to figure something out with pairing him with Schenn, but I feel comfortable saying this: If Ghost plays like Del Zotto did last night, I wouldn't complain at all.
I'm dead serious. I thought Del Zotto did what his skillset said he should do, and I thought he did it well and within the system.
Just my opinion.

Matta was ranked 8th. I guess 14 teams made horrible choices in that draft. |

Really too soon to call that one... especially with the way safer picks like Tierney, Devin Shore, Thrower and Brock McGinn have blossomed post-draft. - Tomahawk
You have to have at least one top goalie prospect in the system. You won't know what you really have till their mid-20s most likely, (e.g. Bishop), but you need them. |

Sadly, its only one on a long list of failures by Homer ...
Bryz/Bob, JvR, Eminger, Carcillo, Versteeg, Modry, trading away a million 2nd rounders, etc etc etc
The sad part is that we havent had a good GM in forever. Clarkie was horrendous too. The good news is that Hextall is a HUGE improvement.. the team has a bright future. - MrBigglesworth
I would agree. When a team that has the Flyers resources aren't able to deliver a Championship in 4 decades, a lot of that is poor executive management for sure. Granted, there are other circumstances that are at play as well. IMO the Flyers have been run poorly since Keith Allen left. Clarke's first tenure as GM wasn't terrible. |

why not? he's been our building block for like 4 years now, what has this team done since loosing to the hawks in the scf?
zilch, nothing
also i have no idea what to think of brayden scheenhe does nothing above aveage, hes not a fast skater, hes not a good passer, hes not a good checker, hes not good at fighting, has a very questionable shot, what does he bring? |

tell me when when we drafted Laughton and Maatta was on the board late at a bargain (like Coots was), that you didnt put your hand on your face and ask why we didnt draft a 1st round defenseman ?

So...what point are you making? It was bad for them to reach for Laughton but good to reach for Giroux? |

There are 2 undeniable truths. Well, 3 actually. Death, taxes, and MJL has got to be my wife.
I don't know you personally bro, but dang, you love to argue for arguments sake.
In other news that sky is falling in FlyerDOM. |

Easy: you can substitute "Schenn" for "-tion" and make a bunch of Flyer-centric words. If that's not value I don't know what is. |

True enough... it'll be a good half-dozen years before we know if that was a good pick or not. When all is said and done, it could just as easily be Merrick Madsen who shapes into the goalie of the future, or what's more likely, neither one of them. |

No, I want a defenseman to pinch when he has the advantage. Otherwise, you're a defenseman, PLAY (frank)ING DEFENSE. - jmatchett383
That's not how puck pressure systems work. If a defenseman has a play on the puck and the ability to keep the puck in the zone, then he goes. The fail safes are in place with the center lock system if executed.

Exactly; all prospects are suspects until they actually make it. It's fun to talk about it, but the vast majority of them need time and simple math says that the vast majority of them do not make it

I thought Maatta was ranked closer to 10-12, and I think all(or most) of the teams in between took forwards |

Technically, a defenseman has a play on EVERY puck in the zone. SO you're saying a defenseman should go after every single puck, even dump ins from the red line? |

Not convinced the Flyers would have taken Hamilton... probably would have taken Oleksiak or Siemens. |
