I thought Maatta was ranked closer to 10-12 - MrBigglesworth
Fair enough. So why did the other 10-12 teams fail to capitalize on this superstar? |

Not convinced the Flyers would have taken Hamilton... probably would have taken Oleksiak or Siemens. - Tomahawk
Coots is a bust. Dougie Hamilton is a future HOFer. |

I won't even lie: That was the last draft I studied intensely, and I wanted them to draft Siemens
Yeah, I own it |

I think all(or most) of the teams in between took forwards

Shame the Flyers didn't make a crazy off-the wall pick and reach for that Shea Weber guy instead of captain alcohol in 2003. |

Don't feel bad, every time the Flyers acquire a player my dads first question is: Can he fight? - BiggE
At least they're Flyer fans though. And they have season tickets so I get to go to games for free a lot. I'll put up with the Coburn Sucks BS for that. |

everyone knew we were desperate for D since the Pronger ordeal.
Doug Hamilton has almost exactly half the games and also half the points as Coots, and he would fill a big defensive need for us.

So...what point are you making? It was bad for them to reach for Laughton but good to reach for Giroux? - jmatchett383
other teams passed over the superstar giroux |

Dougie Hamilton also plays on a far superior team with a Norris Tophy winner.
But we weren't talking about "need", you brought up BPA. So why didn't those other 10-12 teams take Mattam the BPA? |

So you're saying that, even though he wasn't that highly ranked, it was good that the Flyers "reached" on him? |

Drafting a forward was just not addressing our teams needs at that time.
Other teams were simply not as depserate for D as we were.
The simple question is, would you rather have Coots and Laughton or Hamilton and Maatta right now ? |

So you've gone from drafting by need to drafting BPA. Which is it? |

If the Pens were smart, they'd move Malkin and sign Maata to a long term, mega-mil deal now. |

Because he got mono and had to sit out a large portion of his draft season. |
