Standing at the craps table...cmon MCdavid - jmdodgeser4
I still think this team manages to make the playoffs. Hoping for McDavid is something I cant get on board with. Might as well be a Pens fan. |

Hextall said that Coburn will be re-evaluated in the next couple of days, and I think a decision of some sort will have to be made if his injury will keep him out for an extended period.
I just hope Hexy stick with his 'patience' plan and doesn't do anything drastic. If it means a down year (meaning more down than we expected), this is the year for it to happen. - tangent_man
I thnk Hexy will stick to the plan. It's a building year really. They're not a contender and if it becomes apparent that they can't make the playoffs, we might as well be in the lottery picks.
Anyone see the Oilers lose the home opener last night... another jersey thrown on the ice.. hahaha? Will that team ever turn the corner? Wow.. |

Yeah, hasn't worked for the Oilers. I still want them to make the playoffs but a top pick is tempting. |

I fully expect the Flyers to turn it around. Their defense is not ideal, and losing Coburn hurts. But this defense is still capable. - MJL
The individual dmen are capable, however the unit as a whole is not. None of the remaining 6 vets can successfully match up against top lines and the overall group lacks speed and to a lesser degree skill. Without Coburn, this D corps ranks in the bottom third of the league. Thats not being negative, its being realistic. |

Every time the Devils scored it seemed like the same five guys were on the ice. Top line+ Schenn and Del Zotto. I don't think Schenn and Del Zotto should get the blame alone. The top line is horrible right now. They can't score at even strength and they are giving up a ton of goals. |
|
|
|
Possibly but rolling schenn out there after 3 years, seeing the same routine of him constantly out of position, and expecting different results seems insane. - JoeRussomanno
do you just cut the cord and trade for whatever you can get at this point? or do you wait it out andmaybe play him with someone else? |

still time to right the ship, get some stupidity out of the lineup - JoeRussomanno
Right now it'd be a panic move. I'm not necessarily against it, but might as well try to maximize the return. I have no desire to see two bad games turn into a bunch of panic trades or to cause an abandonment of the plan for the long term.
Once they decided to be patient, you had to know there'd be bumps in the road. They're not as bad as they looked last nigh. |

Not having coburn (or mason) is this season's worst case scenario |

No way they play like this all season but these bad starts are very frustrating and unprofessional. IMO |

100% agree. If G went down at least they have scoring/Center depth. Mason going down is the worst case scenario. Coburn is a close second. |

Let's face it, we're not gonna maximize a return on a guy who is consistently inconsistent |

33% of your defense are guys that anchored the islanders when they were considered to have the worst defense in the league. |

Looking around the NHL, I think bottom third might be being kind. Regardless of whether one wants to argue how the various individuals slot, the bottom line is they lack anything close to a legit number one, and have a lot of guys best suited to being second or third pair guys. |
