FWIW, I'd move Simmonds to the left side, stack the 1st line and go with:

Simmonds-G-Jake
Bellemare-VLC-Raffl
Umberger-Coots-Read
Raffl-Schenn-Akeson

You can always swap VLC and Schenn on occasion and Bellemare and Schenn now and then as well

- BiggE

You'd have Schenn on the fourth line, too?

I'd rather trade him than do that -- he's got more value than that, and if they just can't figure out what to do with him, cash him in for another piece and move on

Well said.
I agree with every bit of it.

I think it's important to give BSchenn a long look at wing.
I don't care as much what line he is on as long as they don't keep moving him from C to wing and back.

If the losing continued then Berube will likely continue to line juggle.
It's unfortunate though as no one can get settled into their line mates.

- Marc D

He mixed it up during the Devils game, and it provided a kick start when it was needed, and yes, it will continue whether they win or lose, if for no other reason than the lack of preseason practices. They need to see who works best with each other, and they need a little more punch from all lines than they've been getting.

I don't understand the Schenn thing at 1LW -- if he could play his way off the line after 4 periods, then you never really believed he was capable of it in the first place.

Either leave him there and live with the learning curve, or move him off the roster for another player who fits better.

But Michael Raffl might never score 40 points or 20 goals in a season. Brayden Schenn has done that. Schenn has value. Put him back and let him learn, or get him off the roster and bring back a piece that fits somewhere on the roster better.

- AllInForFlyers

Well, for those clamoring to give Berube a full year, this is it tonight.

We'll see how long Raffl lasts on the top line tonight. If they get behind early, I don't think the experiment will last too long.

I'd start him on the 4th line, at least for a few weeks. My hope would be that VLC continues to produce and they then can move. You can then move Schenn up and problem solved

It wouldn't surprise me if we see all kinds of line configurations in the coming games, but I think you have to settle in with one set for a while and see how they do, no?

That might prove to be a bit deflating for some of the players, but I like the idea, just don't see them ever trying that.

No, because he has no trouble finding his way to the box

Woof -- 10 as a fourth-line center is not exactly beneficial to our long-term hopes
- AllInForFlyers

1. He's not playing very well right now, maybe let him try his luck with some easier matchups,

2. Technically 36-40-18 would be the "4th-line", although I didn't list it that way because I was wary of inciting the "Umberger and VL are not 4th-line players" argument.

3. Anything to break up 10-40-17 revisited.

on number 3, last season's misery was with VLC at wing, IIRC.

I am willing to see that line with VLC at C, I think they could be good.

We're suggesting BSchenn as the 4th line center now? And we'll just plug him on in wherever need be?

I'm sure that won't stunt his development.

too soon for that

plus they would be selling low

1st line LW, second line LW what's the big difference?

other then G centers one line and VLC the other, hah, big difference!

If Raffl can get the first line going, then I'm for it

Think we need to all get used to the idea of a 4th-line that plays 10-12 min per at evens... Schenn would see PP time on top of that.

Edit: Like how Detroit is spreading minutes out among all their kids:

The problems with a Schenn-VLC-Simmonds line are:

None of the above are particularly skilled at carrying the puck through the neutral zone.

None have above average or better speed

None are particularly strong as playmakers

None are very good defensively

VLC and Schenn often seem to gravitate to the same spots on the ice in the offensive zone.

Schenn has not yet shown any real aptitude at playing wing

Other than that though, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

this will guarantee another loss, i thought they had all this figured out, i thought last year they realized schenn sucks as a top line winger, for the life of me i cannot fathom why simmonds is not on the top line, he is by far there best player and has the guts to go with it.
- mydoglicks

Brayden Schenn is still a young developing player, who is capable of 20 goals within his young career. He isn't what he is. Last season was his first full season. He's equally as effective on both center and the wing. So if you think he sucks on the wing, you pretty mucg believe he sucks.

There's still upside to Schenn I agree. I'd like to see him play more with Giroux if possible. He had some decent hits against Jersey and Boston. Showing patience with him with regular shifts alongside Giroux could really help develop his confidence and execution. Hextall is showing patience with his D prospects, be nice if Berube did the same with some of the line combinations.

Good question, it's easier to get info from the N.S.A. than it is to get accurate injury updates from the Flyers. We're pretty confident that he's still alive, but other than that ???

Big question: Should I stay up all night to watch this game? Where I live, I have to be up until 3am-ish to finish a game. Will it be worth it or will I regret it?

He was on crutches last night. Hexy was pessimistic, saying he expects him to miss an extended period of time.

This morning apparently some MRI or Xray or something was done and it was "good news", so hopefully he's day to day now as opposed to week to week.
