True.
Let's see how he handles himself after getting lit up. The first road trip should provide that opportunity.

I don't think they will trade him but he needs to get an extended opportunity to succeed because he is going to just stagnate and IMO he doesn't have the dedication to play as a 3rd liner in the NHL. I think if he isn't making the big bucks as a top 6 fwd he will fall off the edge of the earth. Doesn't play a grinding style

We have heard so much about the need for big body players that can skate and play and if he is motivated, we have seen him contributing and being effective.

Kassian looked very good at times towards the end of last season and may just need some time to adjust again to a new coach and system.

If it is determined that he isn't a good fit, then I hope we can get a good pick or package coming back our way.

What would it cost to replace him?

In a perfect world, many would like to see him develop into a Bertuzzi type power forward who creates room for his line mates, That may never happen but how small does our team look if we start dressing Shinkaruk (_or other player) instead of Kassian.

Honestly he didn't even look bad last night or the game before so I don't really know what WD is seeing that is clearly bothering him so much. He threw a couple of nice hits, drew a penalty... Would I like to see him drive the net more? Yea for sure, but I don't think he's been terrible. Sbisa has had some awful giveaways and he still continues to rack up ice time.

As for his value, I really don't know what he'd garner. My guess is the deal would possibly similar to the original Hodgson/Kassian deal

Kassian is 23 years old. Most power forwards don't develop until they're 25 or so. Let's chill out on writing him off.

Nobody is writing him off, but it really seems like he isn't getting an opportunity to succeed

He is not earning it.

He is not the only one either , look at HANSEN now playing 4 th line. Not hitting , not shooting, not scoring. Formula for demotion.

I don't know what Linden Vey did to earn 1st unit PP time, but he has done extremely well as a result of that opportunity. In 2 games, Kass has 1 goal, 4 shots, 4 hits while playing 3/4th line minutes and no PP time.
Edit: and Hansen is not a fair comparison, because he is a vet, and has an established role, while we are still trying to find out what we have with Kassian

He's shown some real offensive abilities in the other teams end, great fit for the PP.

Vey is quick on the puck, slick moves and fast release. Much like me

Don't know about you guys, but I like having a 4th line that is actually capable..seems like many here just want to trade those guys just so we can go back to having Sestito, Lain, etc up on the 4th and then praying they don't get scored on everytime they're out there. We don't have a legit top 6, so having a solid bottom 6 is important. Having neither is gonna be like last year all over again.

I am good with a solid bottom 6. You won't hear me calling for Higgins or Hansen's heads.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful that the Canucks squeaked out four points to start the season.

So he should take a spot in the lineup for 4-5 years in the hopes he will blossom into a power forward for 5-6 productive years. No thanks.

I'm definitely no longer gonna try to justify his upside if he doesn't take a step forward this year.

No. Instead we should move him for a 3rd round pick so we can hope that pick becomes something over those 5-6 years.

He's a (frank)ing NHL player with upside that plays well at even strength. Let him grow into his role FFS.

Well he doesn't kill penalties, rarely on pp, and he's a minus player that gets benched year after year by 3 different coaches... Sorry pal, you're going to have to explain.
