He may not deserve it but I think its the right move. You've bounced Brayden Schenn around the line-up in his whole tenure with the team. That was a mistake, as was playing him with an anchor in LeCavalier for much of last year.
There is nobody in my mind that can unseat him as of now. Unless someone believes Raffl can be a guy that puts the puck into the net with any consistency. Until a FA or prospect comes around that has a real shot, or real potential at being a viable long term candidate for #1 LW, its Schenn's for now.
His time is running out though. - flyer_nutter
sounds like we need a young playmaker to play with schenn then so they can grow together |

Exactly
Hell they went to the Finals in 85 with the youngest team in the league! - BiggE
I think everyone will give, and rightfully so Couturier a break this year even if he struggles. He has shown a great niche for being a solid shut down guy, and if that offensive game truly doesn't come then so be it.
Unfortunately Brayden Schenn wont get the same leeway. Part of that comes with people scratching their ass when looking for a response to "what does Brayden do well?"
Warm bodies that don't excel in a particular area are useless in today's game imo. |

I never advocating for losing, but if it happens I can tolerate it for the right reasons.
A guy like Sean Monahan, drafted 6th but still finding ways to impress at a young age would be a god-send. There is no punch after you shut down Giroux.
I really hope Couturier can develop that part of his game, or show glimpses of that offensive dominance required. Hope he does, and think he may have it in him just yet. |

Raffl is definitely making it harder on Schenn by actually looking like he belongs on that top line when he gets his chances to play with them.

if couturier never develops offensively then he's pretty much a 3rd line center which is what laughton will be right?

Raffl reminds be a bit of blue balls Thor. A lot of heart and energy but struggles to find the net.
Would be great if he managed to put the puck in the back of the goal consistently. |

Agreed. And that is the scary part. There really is no one to step up at LW. Raffl has awful accuracy with his shot and often gives it away by missing the net all together. Maybe you try Akeson there. But that is a huge gamble. You cant move Simmonds the way he's playing and you dont want to breakup Read and Coots. The spot is Schenn's. All he has to do is run with it. But if he doesnt I think they really need to consider a move. |

Schenn has scored 20 but I think his value is pretty far in the ditch.
No idea what they could get for him if he hits the trade block. |

He didn't look good with them, but I'd like to see him get a bit longer look - Jsaquella
As would I.
When a player was having difficulty with his game, Clarke used to tell Shero to play him on his wing. Clarke made sure the player got his opportunities and gave him his best chance to snap out of his funk.
Perhaps with a little patience and some guidance from the captain, BSchenn would turn it around. |

Schenn just looks like he's got no confidence. He's not skating strongly, he's not battling, he's not being active or asserting himself in the play. |

Read doesn't do poop on the ice. You can put him where the (frank) ever. Coots plays defense no matter where he is. I really like Akeson but right now he's really undersized and needs a year to adjust to the NHL at a minimum. The Hartnell trade is looking a little shortsided now. We might have been able to get more from him at the TDL this year. |

It's a two way street though....Schenn has to be going hard, he's just too passive. For all his warts, Hartnell was rarely passive |

You've gotta look at teams in need. I think Edm, Nsh, Phx, Cgy and Tor could all use him. I think he's got decent value. |

I think some strong direction indicating what his expectations are and what his role is from Giroux would go a long way.
Or maybe a Bauer Nexus across the back of his head in practice would help. |

I guess I can't fathom not being fired up just getting a chance to play with Giroux & Voracek. |

Just watched it happen, the shot was a fast riser and not even that close to the net. |
