Personally, I will not root for them to lose, I just can't make it happen. But here are my top five ways we could beat out BUF or FLD for top choice in this years draft:
1. G goes down for a extended period
2. Coburn is actually hurt more then expected
3. Mason goes down and Razor plays more like last year
4. Shultz continues to be a top pair D man for the team
5. The low confidence rolls out of control like last year

#5 is my biggest fear. Hexy walked in and told Snyder...look. Paul effed up the cap. I can't fix this poope overnight. We have to get out of contract/cap hell. We are gonna suck for at least one season, if not two. I'm not gonna rush the rookies. We are going to let these contracts run there course and if we are extremely lucky, we can dump a few at the TDL. If you can't take those expectations, I'm not taking the job of fixing this train wreck.

Tank this year and throw a whole boatload of cash at Babcock next year.

The unk's....well I dont know who will go in those positions. LOoking for a cleansingof contracts including pronger,kimmo,umberger,vinny,streit,gromman, MDZ . Every team needs a whipping boy or two so I kept schenn and mcdonald .

Last summer, Hextall didn't have a ton of resources. The cap didn't go up as much as it could have(the NHLPA refused to kick in the 5% escalator). He had a couple guys he probably would have loved to move coming off bad seasons that, combined with their contracts, made them difficult, if not impossible to trade.

I do wonder if we see more deals like Hartnell, where they move a bad contract out for a less odious one even if the deal isn't exactly even in terms of on ice play right now.

I wouldn't trade the kinds of assets they are demanding for him. It's not just his play, but that contract is a monster.

Unlike the Kane-JvR draft, the consolation prize is pretty (frank)ing good. Jack Eichel is a fantastic prospect in his own right. In his first game with BU he had 4 points. In a pre-season tune up he had 5 assists. For some people, it's a toss up with him and McDavid.
