Schenn has been on wing so far. Outside of injury, I think he's a winger for the rest of the season. - Jsaquella
I just feel like they're fooling themselves thinking they can slot him on the wing for a year and then move Vinny and slide him back to center.
I have little interest in Schenn playing wing as a long term solution. It really is a tough call with him. |

Makes you wonder if they'd return to the rumored Evander Kane discussions from this past summer. - hereticpride
At some point, you either fish or cut bait -- if you don't believe in the player, and you feel the need to single out his play already, there has to be a better fit somewhere |

which imo should absolutely not be made public
and if i were gm i'd be telling him to shut it - -davies-
While I agree with the first part. If I were Berube I would tell Hextall to go eff himself if he tried to tell me how to motivate my team.

Since he singled out Brayden, I wonder what Berube thinks of Matt Read's play so far?
I love the guy but I am expecting more from him. |

I do to, but I think the difference is that the effort on the ice from Read has been there, whereas he believes the effort from Schenn has not. |

If Vinny misses time here and they slot BSchenn at center I think they'll get a nice preview of what BSchenn would be doing had they been able to move Vinny. If BSchenn doesn't take this opportunity and run I think he's gone come next season. |

but seriously what if hextall IS considering moving b schenn ? let's not bring the return down by publicly badmouthing the player.
shame him in the locker room in front of his peers. |

They have no defense. They have little chemistry up front. Emery could only stand on his head so long. It's going to be a long season.

I think Berube is in a last ditch effort with Schenn, trying to light a fire under his ass.
If they decided to shop him there will definitely be multiple teams involved. They'll have to outbid each other to determine a price. |

Since the advent of the Salary cap, the Flyers have only had 2 years where they didn't have an aging, big, bruising, highly paid, defenseman on a long term contract on LTIR. They are the only team to do so and no other team comes even close.
Holmgren got smoked with Pronger for several reasons.
1 .He traded the equivalent of 4 1st round draft picks + a 2nd for a 33 year old Pronger with 1 year left on his contract with no commitment from Pronger to stay longer.
Which forced him to do #2 :
2. Pronger who had no commitment to stay with the Flyers past the first year and had Holmgren backed into a corner because of the assets given to acquire him. Because of this he was able to extract one of the famed Golden Parachute contracts of that time that just about every team has come to regret and buyout. As a consequence Pronger would be on the books until he was 42.
3. Holmgren's failure to realize Pronger's contract was an over 35 contract and as such couldn't be written off when Pronger retired presumably after the big money years at the age of 40.
4. Pronger's eventual concussion retirement. While not his fault the signs were already there that Pronger was experiencing more injuries and that physically he was beginning to break down little by little. Very common among aging physical defensemen. - Flyers_01
I agree with everything here. Everyone thinks about the eye injury/concussion, which really was a freak accident. But most people don't think about the year before, when he only played 50 games because of knee/back issues.
Obviously we'll never know, but the likelihood that he could play at that elite level this far into that contract was rather low, in my opinion. For every Chara or Lidstrom, there are a dozen guys who break down by 35 or 36, if not sooner. |

I was prepared for a long season. Without Coburn, this defense would have trouble slowing down the Erie Otters |

Absolutely, because they can't lock anybody down. You know they're going to give up chances and shots, and with the roster as currently constructed, some of those chances -- a few too many, tbh -- are going to be Grade A |

Other than being four years younger and righthanded, Schenn really has nothing on Grossmann. They play the same basic role and Grossmann has generally been the better of the two at it over the course of their respective careers (though Schenn had much more hype coming into the NHL). Schenn is sometimes a better passer but is very sporadic in that regard. Neither one skates or turns well. - bmeltzer
I am not a huge Luke fan, I thought Homer was robbed when he made that trade.
However, as you mentioned Schenn is 4 years younger and he does provide a more physical presence for his team ( sticking up for Rinaldo) than Grossman does. Schenn is a better player and can make that pass ( sometimes) out of his own end.
Grossman is a 6, and he would have been best playing with Kimmo this year. |
