Donovan should be no where near the NHL at this point. I rather have Carkner.
- mighty13duck

You waive Donovan, you lose him to waivers. You waive Carkner, he passes through. The on-ice performance of the two in terms of effectiveness is practically identical. If anything, Donovan brings more to the table.

I would like to see Donovan dress tonight instead of Strait. Give him his last shot. Strai has clearly shown he can't do it.

Reinhardt needs to work on his skating. He is slower than everyone on ice. I would rather have Carkner out there b/ c he blocks shots and adds toughness. ( i am biased on Carkner.. My son plays with his kids. He is a great guy.)

- niteislander

Not a good game to give Donovan a last shot in. That should have been Saturday night against a bad Carolina team. Truth is, neither Strait or Donovan sre good options. We need de Haan back.

No matter who is playing on the bottom pairing, they're going to have a rough night tonight.

carkner can't skate. as in, cannot move on the ice. He can't play anymore and frankly we'd be playing 5 defensemen extra minutes to have carkner play 5-6 minutes and sit in the box for 10.

the days of playing a goon on your defense are long gone, if the guy can't play minimum 12 minutes and play responsibly defensively he's a waste of space. Sorry you know Carkner, but he's not capable of playing in the nhl any longer.

I believe someone here sat next to his parents last game or in Carolina? Not sure. Would love to have that actually posted instead of hinted at. If Reinhart parents say he's not happy as an Isle I'd expect someone to post that instead of dancing around it. Hints and rumors are as valuable to me as leafs fans planning on JT signing with them four years from now. Whatever.

Show me an athlete on the "2nd string / B-team" that doesnt want to play up
Show me a parent who doesnt think their child is good enough to make the A-team.
It's natural to be a little disappointed to hear "Not yet." That can be a good thing. Messier played an extra YEAR in the AHL because he was late for the plane from training camp. True story. He turned out pretty good, tho? Reinhart will get his chances this year. Maybe by end of season he'll stick. If not, then next year. A rook defenseman has a lot more responsibility than a rook forward. Cant compare the two.

Xx posted this after Friday's game. I think this is where that Reinhart talk started. Note the bold for you.

Great game!! Sat next to a former NHL player... was told LOTS of stuff... none we really want to hear.. lets just say... not only did his Son not look happy when we drafted him.. but not happy that he's gonna be sent back to BP when Vis or DeHann come back.

Surprised you missed that.

the bold part is what I take issue with. If you have something that was said to you, spell it out, don't dance around it.

Sounds like De Haan is ready to get back in the lineup just waiting on cappy

Defenseman Calvin de Haan (upper body injury) participated in practice for the first time since being put on the injured reserve list, but neither he nor Capuano would speculate on his return. "It's not up to me to decide," de Haan said. "We're winning, so Coach may not change the lineup." So de Haan is fully healthy? "I'm not taking any cough medicine or anything," he said .

I actually don't mind de Haan sitting out tonight. I don't know if I'd throw him directly into a Isles/Rags game having not played a minute yet this season.

He shouldn't be on the penalty kill. He's not good enough to be on the penalty kill. Hammer, Boychuk, Hickey and Reinhart would be my choice for PK defensemen. Reinhart has good length and reach. Covers more ice than Strait

Maybe it's true, but why would Paul Reinhart open and run his mouth about how his son isn't happy and wasn't happy to be picked by the isles and all that? What does it accomplish? The Reinharts can bi*ch all they want to, Griffin isn't going anywhere. He might as well settle in and if he does have an attitude problem about being an Islander, he should do himself a favor and get over it and over himself.

I haven't really seen enough from Reinhart to warrant him being on the PK. He hasn't looked terrible by any means but he hasn't really done a whole lot either. Not enough to entrust him with being on the PK, anyway. It's kind of a shat sandwich for that fourth PK d-man slot.

I wonder if they hope he gets the "Nino" treatment.
