Re: Both Schenns for Myers
I'd do it, in a heartbeat. I've seen nothing from B. Schenn that tells me he is going to be anything special, I just don't see either the hockey sense or the work ethic. Also, while he has struggled, I still like Myers much more than Luke Schenn. Myers is still only 24 and you don't find many mobile 6'8 dmen out there. Plus, huge guys like Myers often take a long time to reach their potential and his ceiling is much greater than that of Luke Schenn

What do you mean? We traded for Schenn's deal. We picked up Del Zotto for cheap. We picked up MacDonald at a decent price and then overpaid him. Meszaros was a 4 million dollar player. For me, it's simple. Timonen and MacDonald have a balanced two way game and this is what Schenn needs to work with. - SuperSchennBros
What do I mean? Simple. If I am paying a guy $3.6mm and he can't be effective unless he's paired with my better defensemen, they I look to dump him as quickly as possible and bring in a cheaper guy.
No need to waste $3.6mm in cap space on a guy when there's several guys making $1mm or so who can also be solid defensemen when paired with your top guys.

Noted. I just don't think Read gets enough praise for this work ethic and skill. I always liked him and if you're reading this Matt, I NOTICE!
I know Schenn is this weeks whipping boy, but ever see someone's face and automatically dislike them without knowing what kind of person they are? That's how I feel about B schenn. - Fast_Eddie_1
Dude, same. He's got a punk face. |

I agree. I think B. Schenn is a good player, but not anything special. Myers won't solve the problems that we have, but he may be part of the answer going forward |

When you are 6'8" it's only logical you have a higher ceiling. |

Bogosian. He's cheaper and I think he's got a better chance to find consistency. |

Sadly, we have bigger problems, still can't get over that 3rd period. |

The entire defense is made up of guys who aren't the lead in any pairing. They all need the proper partner to be effective. Even Coburn. That's why the loss of Timonen is so huge. He elevates the game of his partner and will be solid no matter who he's paired with. He's capable of being the lead on a pair. Losing Timonen was like losing 2 defenseman; him and his partner. - PhillySportsGuy
Yup
Coburn-Support guy on a top pair with a clear cut #1 or a good anchor for your 2nd pair.
AMac-Support guy on 2nd or anchor on 3rd
Streit-PP QB, who at ES can either be the support guy on the 2nd or anchor the 3rd
Grossmann- Good on PK, at ES either a 2nd or 3rd pairing guy depending on matchups and score.
Schenn-Support guy on 2nd pair or anchor of the 3rd
MDZ- 6/7 depth guy
Schultz- 6/7 depth guy.
It ain't pretty, but it's what they currently have. |

I'd go with Myers only cause Bogo seems to always be injured.

Bogosian although I'm not sure I'd do either. Bogosian and Myers have been in the league for 6+ years now and all they've done is fall short of expectations. At least Brayden Schenn has scored 20 goals in his shorter career.

I would also do it in a heart beat. Myers has more to offer in his overall game.
Is Berube a fan of the Schenns? I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't

I adovcated for patience for B. Schenn but he just doesn't pass the eye test. Something seems to be missing and he just isn't finding it. If you could get Myers or Bogosian for arguments sake I think you could replace B. Schenn with a draft pick. Forwards are easier to find. Maybe even Abul-Kubel becomes that guy. |

He clearly isn't. He rips them every chance he gets. Tell Brayden he'll be a LW in training camp then gets mad when he's not winning face-offs at the mid-season point. |

Grossmann is currently a top 4 guy for us. Do you think MacDonald would do better or worse given the exact same shifts and teammates as Grossmann? Streit is supposed to be the main defenseman generating offense at ES and he's partnered with a guy who struggles to hold the puck in in the offensive zone, and randomly fires the puck down the ice for icing in the defensive zone
I agree. - Feanor
i think it would be about the same honestly, grossmans speed would be taken advantage of, where as AMAC's lack of hockey sense would be taken advantage of. |
