They're not going to win the Cup this season barring a miracle which we knew going in so I would prefer to put the team in the best position to win a Cup in the future. Getting McDavid or Eichel accomplishes that much more than getting bounced in the first round or just missing the playoffs. The team won't be that bad regardless but if I had a choice, I'd choose the suck route. - NickTheKid87
I'd prefer the team not embrace a culture of losing or gain the mindset of "it's okay to lose games" and take a chance on finding a diamond in the rough (it IS possible get players outside of a top-3 pick) and continue to let the kids grow and develop. |

If they can't right this ship (please keep in mind it's been 3 games) and want to start getting rid of some players that they don't see as the future, and can get some good young assets/picks, then okay, fine. But I don't think they should throw the season to do so, and I think the one player you DON'T want to move is Coburn, as he's the only player who can somewhat stabilize the current crop of defenders. - jmatchett383
I got you. I understand it is three games. I can still see this team making the playoffs because I think they have enough talent.
I am not advocating moving Coburn but if this team is way out of it at the TDL and some teams offering me a 1st rounder and prospect I would really have to think about it.

Just want to see how they look with Coburn in the lineup for a stretch of games. I think it helps them - AllInForFlyers
I agree. But the third period Saturday night was pretty sobering. They had zero interest in competing. |

There are plenty of talking heads who think the wheels will fall off and that the league owes Ed a make good for Lindros and JVR.
I think they're nuts but it's been out there since the summer and is revisited regularly. - mayorofangrytown
Even with the defense and question marks up front, I think the team is too talented to finished in the bottom 10 in the league. |

If, when things shake out, the Flyers prove to be in the lottery scene, then I'd be fine with trading off some players for futures. I sincerely hope they don't share the McDavid/Eichel mentality right now, though. - BulliesPhan87
I just noticed that the LA Kings are 0-2. Guess it's time for them to pack up shop for the year and go for McDavid. |

I was more talking about the defense. Those guys won't be (hopefully) the players we envision them to be next year. They won't be the "deep" blueline we want for a few years now. Morin, Hagg, Alt, Sanheim, and Ghost, assuming they all make it in the next 2 years, are not going to be ready to stake down top-pair and filtering-down top-4 jobs during their first/second season. - jmatchett383
You get one or two in by seasons end and a couple more next year at some point. Keep Coburn, Streit and MacDonald. |

I agree. If he can fetch a first-rounder (preferably from a low-hanging contender) then I'd consider it. But I'm not saying I'm giving away our only legit top-2/3 defender for a handful of lower picks. |

Oh no, I'm not advocating tanking. I would just like them to have bad luck and finish in the bottom 2. Doubtful that will happen though, which is fine. |

He wasn't exactly stellar during the pre-season. But you're right, he has to help.
Will he be enough to turn this mess around? I hardly think so. I think it's more systemic than what any one player could do to turn it around. |

If you keep those 3, the max. you could play is 3 (barring injury). So not sure how we're getting 4+ of them into the lineup. |

I agree. But I would be ok moving MacDonald. I think Haag has the same skill set and could fill in fine. |

No, was obviously pre-planned. The Flyers had all three goalies out at the beginning after Mason did his usual first-on-the-ice work with Reese. Emery put in his work and left the ice ahead of everyone else. He may be under the weather or was excused early but there was no injury. - bmeltzer
That's what I had figured but you never know given recent injury news |

They did enough to have a 3-0 lead after two periods, and outplayed Montreal. They were outshooting them 27-18. To be completely overwhelmed like they were in the third is hard to comprehend. I don't think it was a matter of not being able to do anything, I think it was a matter of not being interested in competing. Which is hard to fathom based on what happened the first two games. |

poop, did they? Let me retry:
The Kings only have one more point that the NHL's worst team, the Flyers. They need to start tanking fast, make sure they beat out Philly for that #1 overall pick. |

That was the little known "future considerations" part of the Gretzky deal back in '88. |

Niether am I . Thinking more of the idea if Vancouver wanted to send 1st Rounder and Jake Virtanen. Maybe Arizona sends you a first rounder and Henrik Samulesson or Brandon Perlni, or Mntreal offers you a 1st and Micael Mcarron nd Dalton Thrower. Those type of deals would listen too. |

And the Flyers were a playoff team last year and drafted a player that people are going gaga over. So let's just try that again, get the young kids more experience, not embrace a losing culture, and grab another fantastic player with a mid-pick as we start to plug some of our holes in seasons going forward. |
