Niether am I . Thinking more of the idea if Vancouver wanted to send 1st Rounder and Jake Virtanen. Maybe Arizona sends you a first rounder and Henrik Samulesson or Brandon Perlni, or Mntreal offers you a 1st and Micael Mcarron nd Dalton Thrower. Those type of deals would listen too.
- J35Bacher

I'd listen to them. But sadly, I don't see that happening, mostly because I don't see Arizona or Vancouver making the playoffs.

I just noticed that the LA Kings are 0-2. Guess it's time for them to pack up shop for the year and go for McDavid.
- jmatchett383

I'm guessing if the Flyers were coming off 2 Cups in 3 years, and had Drew Doughty on their top pairing instead of Andrew MacDonald, the sentiment would be a tad bit different. I could be wrong though. What do I know.

no sarcasm just truth, to compare us to the kings is just outragous

They did enough to have a 3-0 lead after two periods, and outplayed Montreal. They were outshooting them 27-18. To be completely overwhelmed like they were in the third is hard to comprehend. I don't think it was a matter of not being able to do anything, I think it was a matter of not being interested in competing. Which is hard to fathom based on what happened the first two games.

It's obviously sarcasm. The point is that a few bad games at the start of the season are not a death sentence and a sign that the team should unload and tank ASAP.

No need for a comparison to any team.

Even if they did tank, there is no guarantee they would land McDavid, or Eichel. So I doubt that is the strategy. It's only 3 games, but early returns are this is a pretty bad team. How bad? Not sure. I thought best case scenario was fringe playoff team if things broke right. Now I'm thinking they may be picking in the 7-10 range. Lots of hockey yet to be played.

If you keep those 3, the max. you could play is 3 (barring injury). So not sure how we're getting 4+ of them into the lineup.
- jmatchett383

We have the AHL for call ups and we can ease them in and out of the line up as 7th defensemen. I don't mind carrying one or two of them as 6th/7th if they're playing semi regularly (Alt).

I don't want to carry one of our promising young defenders as a potential healthy scratch. That's what the Brandon Manning's of the world are for.

Sure. Panic, laziness. Neither is all they great of a trait to have. Laziness is worse though.

Agreed. I think "overwhelmed" was the exact right word to describe them.

And the Flyers were a playoff team last year and drafted a player that people are going gaga over. So let's just try that again, get the young kids more experience, not embrace a losing culture, and grab another fantastic player with a mid-pick as we start to plug some of our holes in seasons going forward.
- jmatchett383

Losing culture is an interesting term. The Flyers haven't won a Cup since 1975. They've been in the playoffs all but 7 seasons over the past 38. But they've won zero Cups while playing in the Final 6 times. Definitely no losing culture but maybe a bit of a delusional one.

I'm with you, I thought they'd be a bubble team as well but it looks worse than I thought. I didn't anticipate them not having another rookie on the team past Akeson. I thought Timmonen would have another decent year in him and I didn't see the Hartnell for trash trade coming. He had to have more value than that didn't he?
- mayorofangrytown

I thought they were a bubble team after the Hartnell deal. Teams are gunshot about a guy signed until he's in his late 30's, so it's harder to get value.

I didn't expect Akeson to be the only rookie, but I expected only Laughton to join him. I don't think any of the kids makes a huge difference anyhow, right now.
Timonen's injury was when I really thought they'd be in trouble, though.

Hopefully the 'never sit on a lead' message was received.

Although the 60 minute game has been missing for so long, it's hard to believe they haven't learned that lesson yet.

Okay. A culture where they are allowed to believe that losing is acceptable. Better?

Was just using them as examples since it is so early and we have no clue what teams will be close to the playoffs and need that extra push to get in. Teams Like WPG, EDM, Calgary, Vancouver might bee more desperate because of needing to make the playoffs.

A culture that makes moves to win a championship and not just to make the playoffs is what I want. It looks like they're on that path now too which is encouraging. I don't blame Snider for the past decade or so though. He wants to win a Cup before he dies and he's not getting any younger so there were a lot of band-aids and rash moves. It looks like he's content to wait and give more freedom to the GM.

Maybe they're just dumb. This thought has crossed my mind. They same mistakes have been made consistently over the past few years.

I agree. The Vinny signing is a prime example of the band-aid moves, as you call them. Still, I never want a team to embrace the idea that it's okay to lose. If they try but lose, that's fine.

It's something that dates back even before tradepocalypse (i.e. the start of the Captain Clode era), so I don't think it can just be laid at the feet of the current team leadership.

I honestly don't know where it comes from, or how to fix it.
