so who is going to be your top pairing for the next three years? Amac and coburn? Then waht you expect Ghost and morin to come in as rookies and play a top pairing role?
- PhillaBully

Adding Myers to the lineup doesn't exactly make this a fearsome blue line. He's an upgrade, but not an elite player.

That said, as long as we're not dealing away our top prospects or one of G/Coots/Simmonds/Voracek, I'm not necessarily opposed.

Myers would be a band-aid, IMO. I'd rather just have patience and let what happens happen.
- NickTheKid87

Band Aid? Its not like were getting some 30 year old defenseman...Hes 24!

So two weeks out for Vinnie?
Not long enough to be a broken bone.
Must have a bad bruise.

So likely Schenn goes back to center.
This should be interesting.

I hope he does well. I'm sick of hearing about how they should trade him.
Great teams are built with depth down the center.
Even if they convert him to wing, lets at least give him a full season to see how he does. He's a failure at wing after 3 games? Show some patience.

I think any team will trade an unknown NHL quantity for a guy who is (relatively) young and just got a Hart Trophy nomination.
- jmatchett383

Would PIT have traded the Crosby pick for Hossa back in the day?

Is Myers really that much of an upgrade? I'd rather have AMac and Coburn than trade assets for Myers. Other things will happen in 3 years and Ghost and Morin may be solid NHLers in that time.

For Hossa? No. For Joe Thornton, probably.

Edit: Let's revisit this if/when McDavid puts up 168 points in juniors this year.

Once the draft order is set, teams that net 1st and 2nd-overall in this draft will not be moving those picks... even for Giroux+.

Only way anybody's trading into one of those picks is if it's a Kessel kind of trade, where one team is completely deluded about how bad they are, and mistakenly think they're one piece away. I see the Flyers being the Leafs in that kind of trade, more so than the Bruins.

- Tomahawk

Agreed, I very much doubt those picks or Giroux are moved. I just disagree with people who say you cannot even consider moving Giroux. It never hurts to listen.

And he's gotten worse every year since his rookie season when he was 19. I'd just rather go a different route.

I know a lot can happen in FA, and trades, but in all seriousness if the Flyers stay the "rebuilding course" how old is Giroux when this team becomes a legit Cup contender?

Any player/pick not named Sidney Crosby or Steven Stamkos is available. But the price would have to be ridiculous for a lot of players.

Yzerman didn't win a cup till he was 32. It's too early to worry about Giroux's age.

Funny thing is Pitt WON the first pick. ANA had the worst record and should have got the 1st pick. Anaheim wanted Crosby to help take the franchise forward. Lucky the NHL, opps i mean ping pong balls, intervened

It depends, IMO. If I was Buffalo or Florida, for example, I'd take my chances with McDavid or Eichel given the present state of the roster and the other young players that have yet to bloom than trade that pick for a stud player in his prime that will make the team a marginal playoff team. Those teams need to be thinking long term.

If the Leafs suck this year or a team like that, I'd consider it more given that they're not that far off from being really good.

Giroux for Bogosian and Ladd plus Pavelec is always our opposing goalie.

Maybe, but this defense core is such a mess, with no real answers on the horizon. Even if all of the kids pan out (which is highly unlikely) they are probably 5 years away from being top 4 dmen.

Do I really want Streit, AMac, and Myers on my defense eating nearly 16 mil of my cap?

I don't think so.

Ok. So that gives the Flyers what, a 2-3 year window in years that are still considered prime years.

I hear you, but there's a chance (relatively small) that you're gonna get another Daigle/Nolan/Stfean/Hamrlik/Berard/Phillips, or hell, even an E. Johnson/RNH type of player.

I'll take the one in the hand over the two in the bush.
